Tire change….Good, Bad or Ugly???

Couple of thoughts on this video…. 1) I’m running tires with less tread on them then the ones being replaced. 2) Seams like a lot of work for a tire change….$15 mounting fee would have been worth it IMO. 3) Once the grinding wheel came out I stopped watching…..think I would have tried driving on the edge of the tire to break the bead. 4) the tire he cut up would be listed on local craigslist for $50 with around 50% tread left. Amazing how value of used tires varys…..

2002 honda 400ex

hello guys i just got a like really good shape 2002 honda400ex picked it up for a pretty good price
so anyways i was has very happy till i rode it
i can not get it to do a wheelie in any gear
its has 15tooth on front and 38 sprocket on back it has 22x11x9 tires on the back
this Honda is stock just a k/n air filter on it
when i am going down the road it is very fast it really runs good ay all speeds
but for power i would not drive it around my friends its got not much bottom end
i was thinking of getting a 14 front sprocket for it first and see what happens
i have seen a site where they are modding the stock muffler i might do that right not its real quiet
i really like Honda but you think it would have enof power to pull the wheels off the ground in first gear

Help with no power situation 02 400ex

Just for some info on this quad its an 02 400ex I have had for probably4 years now. I want to pass it down to my son who rides it (when its running already). Being its almost spring I am done with screwing this up.

I had a blown piston in the end of last year. The cylinder had some scratching so I picked up the next size piston from wiseco to make it a 416. I then mailed the cylinder and piston to have it bored/honed to match. I replaced the timing chain, and found my cylinder valve cover had a broken engine mount so I replaced that. I then found that my valve guides were out of spec so changed them, and did new valve springs, seats, seals.

Long story short I broke a tooth on my outer clutch basket and replaced it with the wrong year basket, it was hitting the gear and I didn’t notice. I also put my cylinder scraper and compression ring on upside down so they were in the right spot but upside down. Didnt realize that either… :icon_ cry:

So I had it all back together and it ran seemingly fine. It wasnt smoking or rattling or anything. I rode it around a few hours and changed the oil didnt see anything out of the ordinary.

I took it out again and noticed it was not really picking up in 4th and 5th gear, then all the sudden while in 5th it just shut off. I restarted it but it had no power, it started but when I throttled it would rev up but wouldn’t move an inch.

So I spent today tearing it down and found the upside down rings and a scratched up piston, nicked ring, and cylinder walls were slightly discolored in a small area.

So what in your opinion do I need to do to get this going again. Would the ring having a small nick cause complete power loss? When I had it in 1st I was able to roll it with out the clutch pulled? Now that its apart the quad wants to roll when the crank is rotated.

Do I need to get a new piston and have the cylinder honed again? Or just new rings? What else should I check for before reassembling this thing? Whats the best way to be sure the bottom end is all cleaned of possible metal shards?

Thanks

Tranny problems

It seems that my Grizzly has some transmission issues. Is the transmission part of the engine on these units? I just parked the thing and will look at it tomorrow. It seems to be making a clunking sound and you can feel it. I did raise the wheels and ran it. It does this in two wheel drive.

Anyone else ever have this issue. I am hoping I do not have to split the engine case. My health is not that good and no way I am able to do this, not without help.

17″ LED Light Bar installed on ’06 Kodiak 450

Installed my new 108 watt 17 inch LED light bar this weekend along with a pair of 18 watt 4 inch LED cubes.

The light bar has thirty six 3 watt CREE LEDs, and the cubes have six 3 watt CREE LED’s each. I have the light bar pointed straight forward and the cubes pointed out slightly to the sides.

I paid $109.99 for the light bar and that included the mounting hardware, wiring harness with a decent switch and free shipping. The 4 inch cubes were $79.99 for the pair. I had to drill four small holes in my brush guard to mount the brackets. Wiring was a breeze, the only extra materials required were some water resistant wire connectors, electrical tape and some zip ties.
