Another timing chain question

So I posted previously about a noise coming from sounded like my timing chain
Valves were checked an are good but I found a gasket guide just sitting right near the cam think that could have been my tapping noise that thing flopping around ? Timing chain was still tight ? If anything to tight ?

300 FW no spark help please

original thread on this wheeler

http://www.hondaatvforums.net/forums…lp-needed.html

so the reverse didn’t work then all of a sudden I tried it one day before digging into it and presto! reverse works fine!

fast forward…riding a month ago around home backed it into the shop and it has not run since NO SPARKY
it does turn over

Also no reverse indicator light when shifted into reverse

I have tried other known electrical parts CDI coil VR, have taken a good look at harness

pulse generator come back 325 ohms

reverse/neutral switches in the case?
would it still turn over but no spark if they are bad?

need the two switches and rubber gaskets to R&R correct?

any other advice?
it’s the 3 wire plug by the airbox to test correct?

Thanks guys.

Hub Stripped or Axle Stripped??

Hello,

My grandson’s 2004 250ex left rear axle spins loosely inside that hub. Something is stripped and I’m hoping it is the hub splines and not the axle splines. Visually, I can’t tell but since the hub is softer metal, cheaper and easier to replace than a steel axle, that’s what I’m going to try first.

Anybody got experience here one way or the other? What did you replace? Axle or hub?

Many thanks,

Rick

Ideas how to customize my ’86 TRX250 Fourtrax?

Hi guys,
I recently have been looking for ideas how to make my 1986 Honda TRX250 Fourtrax look more cool. Friday, I came across a thread and I saw "amerritt124"’s post showing some photos of their ’87 TRX250 Fourtrax and what they did to it. It is the black ATV that is theirs. My ATV is the red one. Was hoping to get some feedback telling me what I could do to make it more like that one. Please let me know.

Thanks,
Storm

Replacement TRX 400EX Handlebars

I bent the heck out of the stock handle bars on my 2005 TRX400EX.

Looking at a parts fiche, I see bar weights are used. I have two questions,

1) Are the bar end weights really needed?

2) Other than Honda $71.00 plus freight. Who makes a replacement handle bar and, will it also require bar weights? I’m looking for O.E.M. quality, nothing fancy.

Winter project 93′ 300EX

Anyways, i’m new to the Honda world. Just bought this 300EX a few days ago, gotta do lots of work to it. I’ll make a small list and try my best to keep you guys posted!

Also would like to know what are the best mods for this bike. Like handle bars, nerf bars, suspensions, all the outside motor mods. Everyone has their opinions, but will read every messages!

To do;
– Make it run [Done] <Flushed the old gas, cleaned the carb and adjusted the throttle.
– Buy & install brakes (Brake calipers seized in the front)
– Buy & install new tires and rims
– Buy & install key switch
– Buy & change valves (Probably just gonna over size the piston)
– Buy & install rear brake light
– Buy or make front and back bumpers
– Buy & install low beam globe ( Maybe gonna get a light bar )
– Buy & install missing plastic ( Missing plastic around gas cap )
– Recover seat

Here’s some pictures as of right now;

Fuse and CDI

TRX 300 FW stopped while idling yesterday. Blown fuse which blew on replacement.

Today I rigged a testing light to the fuse and found that the CDI box is blowing the 20amp fuse. I even disconnected the power to the box and it still has a short with just the one square plug connected.

I tested each wire in the plug and found the black with silver bloches is the culprit. This joins to three other wires, one going back towards the battery and the other two go towards the handle bars. Disconnected the last two … no change. Having trouble finding where the one going back to the rear goes, can’t see it exiting anywhere and I’m reluctant to start unwrapping the main harness.

Question:
Do these symptoms sound like a faulty CDI box. If not what might be going on?

Thanks in advance, any help greatly appreciated.

Honda 300 Fourtrax 4×4 front knuckle

I have Honda 300 Fourtrax 4×4 , put new bearings in the front knuckle about 1 1/2 years ago ,yesterday while installing some floor boards I seen a lot of play on one front wheel , so I went to Honda and picked up some bearings and seals and took it a part and changed them and the disc pads , the bearings were worn some but not that bad , pads were almost gone , put it back together and there is still some play in the hub ——— I was looking back at some threads , seems I remember some one talking about slack in 300 knuckles ????????? the bearing fits tight in the bore and had to be knocked in , and the hub’s collar and the cv axle look good , I do have a 2 inch lift and 26 Mudzillas which is hard on them ————— I was just thinking about it and wonder if the axle nut is pulling the hub far enough in before bottoming out

400ex trailer?

I’m looking into getting a Honda 400ex and don’t have a truck. So I was gonna hook up a towing hitch on my car for a small trailer. Does anyone know what size trailer I would need for a 400ex? I have a small car and it can’t be to big to put a bunch of stress on the car. Something just right for that bike. Thanks!
