Today I replaced my left side rear axle with an OE style complete axle assembly from ATV Parts Connection.
Everything went fine until I tried to slide the hub onto the axle splines and inside the bearing. It did not want to slide in. I thought I might have put too much grease on the splines (and also on the sleeve of the hub that goes inside the bearing), so I tried to tap it in with a rubber mallet. It did go in about an inch, then I thought it does not feel right.
So I tried to pull the hub back off, and it came off quite easily – with the bearing’s inner race stuck onto the sleeve!
The inside part of the bearing looks OK, all the balls are held in place by grease, so I pushed/tapped the hub all the way back in, then tightened the hubnut and installed the wheel.
When I tried to spin the wheel it felt a bit grinding, but the sound went away. When I try to push the ATV in neutral back and forth, there is no sound coming from the bearing area.
I am thinking that it would be probably a good idea to replace that bearing, anyway – I just want to hear some opinions on what could have caused this?
Why did not the hub slide on like it was supposed to? Could too much grease on the splines of the axle cause this?
(I don’t even want to think that the sizing of the splines of this OE axle is off a little bit…)
Could the "tapping the hub on" have damaged the bearing so that it got separated? (I was not using really too much force).
First off, let me say that I’m a newbie when it comes to ATV repair. I’ve got experience working on stuff, just not these quads
So, I’m carousing craigslist and found a ’06 sportsman 450 for sale. The price sounds good to me. The owner says it needs a radiator fan. Says it’s broken. Says the dash display flashes hot all the time. Said it was just at the dealer for a re-flash which, they completed and found the fan was bad.
I did a little searching. I see a few possible issues.
1. Bad CDI/ECM or whatever you want to call it
2. Bad thermoswitch in the engine fooling the CDI into thinking the engine is hot
3. Bad thermoswitch in radiator not telling the fan to work
4. Bad fan
5. Bad circuit breaker in the fan wiring.
Any other possibilities?
I find it hard to believe a bad fan would make the display flash hot all the time.
I could see the thermoswitch in the engine causing the code. I’m not too familiar with the switch but I’d think a simple test of making/breaking the wires to this switch could be a quick test
I’m open for opinions on how to diagnose the issue.
The owner says he can’t read the mileage ir hrs due to the HOT code flashing on the display. Can we override this quickly to see the mileage?
Aloha Guy’s, I am very new to all of this stuff so please excuse my stupid question’s, but why would it not be good to replace the wire rope on a super winch LT2500 or 3000 with synthetic rope? I called super winch today and the guy told me that you shouldn’t do that?? But he did not explain why. I have a grizzly 450 and want to get a winch for it and would like to have synthetic rope but am not sure if I need to spend the extra $$ for a terra. I don’t expect to be using the winch a lot. Thanks for the help.
Hey gang, I thought I would toss this out there for all you atv owners that run across a hard to remove bolt, nut ?. if it won’t move very good from the normal turning ?..then you can bet your bottom dollar..it will not move ?..or will snap off !..lol. so people..here is another fine tool you need to have handy around your work area !. A PROPANE TORCH !!. I use MAP gas yellow bottle, it burns hotter than the blue bottle propane torches !. and it works fast in my book. you can buy this for about 9 bucks or so at any hardware store. I buy mine at lowes. wal-mart carries the blue bottle kind ?..but I like the MAP gas better. I can not tell you how many times this tool has saved my butt from stuck, seized , broken off bolts, studs, nuts won’t budge ?..you name it !. this is a MUST HAVE TOOL IN YOUR WORK AREA !. buy it, try it, I bet you will love it !.
Well I picked her up Wednesday and started getting it ready. I hate the wait and not riding but it’s work in process.
Here is the 15 msa and 31 buckshot mudders.
I wanted to redo the rear bc I couldn’t put any decent size cooler In the bed and also I chopped the rear cage 4 inches.
Also built nerf bars
And I’m 2 and a half weeks away from my seats
Now a roof, radio, speakers, doors, LEDS, windshield, arched a arms front and rear. What color should I powder coat my nerf bars and cage?

I heard there was frame issues on the 2005 Hawkeye’s, but fixed in 2007 model…. So is the 2006 model year the fixed frame or does it have the bad frame – anyone know?
Ok so bare with me, I am a newbie. I bought a 2003 magnum 330 4×4 that wasn’t idling. So when I started opening her up I noticed a lot of hoses that weren’t connected. So I cleaned the carb connected the hoses and got her going. Now she’s backfiring when I go to shut her down? Then I noticed that the vacuum hose from the carb to the fuel pump is disconnected and capped! Any idea why?
