2002 sportsman 500 H.O. dilema

Hey guys, today I picked up a what I believe is a 2002 sportsman 500 H.O. It has defiantly seen better days. I was told before I had gone to pick it up that all it was missing was a front strut and had an overheating issue, I figured that was quite the deal for only $500. When I had arrived the quad was on a pallet with both right side tires off the machine, I was then told that the machine is missing the carb, primary clutch, right side wheel hubs and the lower strut mount. I was told the engine had been rebuilt before being parked due to the over heating issue, and that the previous owners had thrown nearly $2000 at the issue before they decided to use it as a parts quad. I should mention it came with all four tires and the side plastics and the front and rear racks are broken. So I guess what I am asking is, did I make a fool of my self for purchasing this unit to try and fix up or should I just tear it down and sell it for parts?

Love my Polaris but………..

I do feel they have went to far!:rm_thumbdown:

The new accessory attachment bolt/wedges are just absolutely F%$*ing worthless!!!!

Yes you can get them out and reuse them once if you careful but come on Polaris this is just plain STUPID!! 😡

I am however sure they are just trying to soak us for more cash because we have already spent how much on their gear?

I am also sure that they paid some jack-off engineer to design a non-reusable attachment system that we would need to buy because they really think we will have to buy it?

Wow Polaris, you guys are really hard up for cash? Even after your accessories sky high in price?

Anyone priced the 6 bolt attachment kit? 40 bucks? Are you serious? If you buy the wedges alone they are $12 each? OMFG!!

Rant over!! :/

Manifold Hose

I just changed the boot between the air filter and the carb. I noticed the hose that connects the air filter to the top of the manifold has a slit in it. It seems to be marked on the hose which makes me wonder if it is supposed to be there. Anybody know if it is?

1000 XXC RPM – Muzzy Exh / Digituner

I have a 2012 XXC 1000 with 500 miles, running 25.5" Pitbull Growlers, stock clutch, Gates Kevlar belt w/200 miles on it, Muzzy dual slip-on, VFJ plug-n-play dobek and UNI air filter.

When I pin it, motor will jump to 7200 mph and then within 75 yards will fall off to 7050rpm and maintain that for 1/4 mile or so until rev limiter kicks in at 77mph. Bike runs fine without backfiring, bogging etc..wheelies at 15mph no problem.

I own a second 2012 1000 XXC with 500 miles on it (guest quad) that is bone stock. It pulls my Muzzy bike by 8 lengths up to 77mph even though the Muzzy bike sounds wayyyyy faster! My brother has a 2012 XXC 1000 and he smokes me by 8 lengths as well. We are both 175lbs.

Before Deadman chimes in about heavy tires, I swapped back to the stock Holeshots and race outcome was identical, which leads me to believe something isn’t right with my setup. Like I need less pin weight.

I don’t think 7050 is enough rpm, the other 2 bikes hit 7600rpm, what say the guru’s? What should typical RPM be when you are WOT? Should it be a constant RPM for the duration of the run? I haven’t jacked with John’s controller settings.

Ill handling 900XP!

My 900 turbo is great until I really get on the throttle on higher boost, like above 6lbs of boost. It pulls nice for a bit then just carves one way or the other, it’s hard to keep it on the road. It seems fine on pavement or hard road but on gravel it’s swapping lanes like crazy. Very scary to drive. I do all my testing on gravel so I have to figure out what the heck is going on. Thanks, Dan
