Barnyard find

First post. Hope it’s in the right section. I recently bought a nice clean old fourtrax 300. It is pretty much new and sat in a barn for many years with the original tags on it etc. A farm family then bought it for their son and he rode it for a couple years. Not much from the looks of her. It’s a 95 300 fourtrax. Runs great. Starts in a fraction of a second with no choke. Tires are checked and about 30# tread on original good years. So It will need new tires. But other than that I can’t seam to find anything to tweak or button up on this old Honda. Any do or die maintenance any of you would recommend? Other than the basic carb, oil, plug stuff? It just strikes me as strange that everything seams to be good to go…. Normally when i buy an old machine (even if it is minty) it needs something done to it. Any tips or advice will be greatly appreciated. I just don’t want to jump on this thing and run it down a trail missing some basic Honda maintenance that everyone knows about other than me. Thanks.

MN forum intro

Morning. Just wanted to introduce myself to the masses. New to the Honda atv world and to this forum. Fair warning.

I will do some searching for some of my questions and try and save you folks the monotony of answering the same old questions. Thanks for your time.

92 fortrax 300 4×4 need help!

Got a 92 fortrax 300. Won’t run past half throttle idles ok but not good. Backfires and black smoke at wot
What I have checked. Oil and neutral light work. Tried new coil and plug. Carb kit but was spotless when i took it apart. New cdi. Stator ohm good charging 13.7vdc running. New battery, pulse coil didn’t pass ohm test replaced it. Checked valves were tight but the timing chain is toast but didn’t jump time. Compression is 150 psi cold. It has a decent spark when cranking it over but I’m lost I cannot get it figured out!

Needed new ignition……

Lost the key to my ’14 550xp so I went to Polaris dealer for new ignition….picking up a new matte white ’15 1000 xp today, expensive ignition!!

After reading a few threads here thou…I’m having some buyers remorse lol, r there really that many issues??!

I’m having them install hand/thumb warmers prior to pickup and thinking 26" bighorns and and exhaust at some point. R the bighorns taller than stock (I know both r 26")??
