2004 Magnum 330

Thanks to those who helped me with my issues on my recent purchase of the Magnum 330, especially reynoldston.
I really like my Magnum… I didn’t even get to ride it, before I tried changing the oil, and cracked the block, but I did the jb weld thing. I also right away changed out my oil lines, because of weeping oil – I don’t think I really needed to, but gave me peace of mind.
My Magnum 330 is only a 2×4, but does everything I need it to, i.e.. trail riding, and pulling a small trailer, and is plenty fast enough (45 mph) for going through the woods – don’t need to wrap myself or the atv around a tree.

After a few times riding, the jb weld is holding up and engine purrs like a kitten.

The only issue I have, which is not a big deal, is the shifting from p/n/l/h, it sometimes goes right past or sticks a bit…. do others have the same problem.. any fix? – not a big issue, and I do get it after playing around for a few seconds, but it is a bit aggravating.

Engine oil for an 1997 Kodiak

I’ve finally got some seat time on my 1997 Kodiak. It runs pretty good after putting in a new timing chain and tensioner and getting the carb rebuilt (it was blowing black smoke/raw gas). I set the valves and a local ATV shop then did a leak down test, it was 3% or as the mechanic said excellent, compression like a new engine. All in all, the ATV is now running really good, no smoke, but it still has a metallic-like chattering noise coming from the top end, which increases the faster you go. The mechanic said it was just the age of the engine showing and the valves are chattering, but they are set right as the leak down test was good. The noise doesn’t sound like a rod knock – going 70km/hr I’d think that there’s no way to mistake a rod knocking for a metallic chattering sound.

So my question is, can I run a heaver weight oil to try and quiet down this chattering noise?

Grizzly 700 troubles

Been a bit since I have posted on here. Need some advice. I let a friend ride my 07 700 for a few days and during that time it quit running. I learned that it was not getting any spark, so it was diagnosed and the stator and crankshaft sensor were replaced due to a bad spot on the harness. After that repair was done, I test rode the bike and found it had problems shifting out of reverse. Like bad problems. Bike had to be backed up for extended distances just to get it out. It also feels like it has a lot more engine breaking than before. In Low, High, and sometimes reverse gear, it will make a grinding/chattering noise on deceleration as well. It does not do the noise when in neutral and revved up.
This machine has already had the reverse gear upgrade done, so I do not believe that is the issue, although it is possible. There was some very small metal shavings on the magneto, but I was told that is usually from the starter clutch starting to deteriorate…most likely from my friend attempting to start the bike numerous times when it lost spark. I had zero shifting or transmission problems prior to him operating it (not blaming him), I just had know clue if it was a gradual thing or just all at once over the two days he rode it.
Thoughts??? Wet clutch a possibility? I hate to have to split the cases again!

New From Maine

Hello

Been riding for year’s Last four machines have been Can Ams Before that All Honda. Just bought a new Rubicon with power steering. I run trax in the winter and when I saw that Honda now had power steering I came back. So far not so good. I don’t think the power steering is working and at my age I can’t manhandle it. The dealer has spoke with Honda and they are kind of geeze I don’t know the power steering should be working. Not the Honda people I remember. Anyone out there ever get a honda with a bad power steering unit.
Except for this issue I love the machine but I bought it to run trax in the winter.

First ride and all I can say is, It doesnt suck!!!

2015 Outlander 800 xt. Completely stock and I really like this machine. Took it through some swampy wooded areas, a few water/mud crossings. Nothing too deep, maybe 8" above the foot rest. The only thing Im a little disappointed with is the brushed aluminum finish. Seems like its not that durable, a few branches rubbed across the fenders and now I have black scratches showing. but hey, no big deal. Completely happy with the power this thing makes too.

Summer in Sedona

My wife and I are headed to Sedona AZ for vacation in July. We are planning on trail riding as much as possible but really aren’t looking for super tough runs but rather nice scenic rides. I am getting ready to order some tires/rims and will be taking off the SB tires for the summer. What is a good tire for the Arizona back country? I was planning on trying to keep it at 30x10x14 all the way around and getting beadlocks. So far I have looked into the Bighorn and the Evos but am very open to suggestions.

Thanks!

Jim

p.s. cost is not a factor, this is after all our hobby!

Newbie. Need purchasing help / advice

I’m currently in the market for a quad. I have been riding dirt bikes and trikes for 20 years. Looking to switch over to atv. My budget is around 5k. The dealer is selling a new sportsman 400 for right around my price range I just don’t know I’m better off buying a 5 year old 500 or a 600 for the same price range. Going to use it for mud and trails with the kids. I’m under 200 lbs. Is a 400 under powered ? Will I regret it ?

Thanks for the advice
