Hatfield McCoy Questions

This is for all of you that frequently ride the HMT.

I have a group of 12 that are going at the end of March. How often do you see any park rangers riding around? What happens if you are riding and it gets dark on you before you get off the trails? Owners manuals for your SXS’s? An occasional beer (lol) while riding? We have a 13 year old that drives a 900 S better than some guys, can she drive on the trails?

I have been looking at the rules and just had some of those questions. I believe in rules and some to most are in place for safety reasons, just curious of how much they are enforced. This is our first trip and want to be prepared for everything. Don’t want to drive 9 and a half hours and be disappointed. Thanks

Water Crossings at HFM

I have been to Hatfield McCoy 2 times and the only creek or water crossings we found were on the outlaw trails. Do any of the HFM trails have water crossings? I have most of Rockhouse,Indian Ridge, and Pinnacle. We would go back to Ride Royal Blue but it is just to expensive for 5 of us to ride. We like to ride in the mountains and cross creeks but don’t care for the real muddy stuff. Any other places worth going?

Hatfield & McCoy Trails – Bearwallow

I posted this in the Gen Discussions sector as well, but thought it may be better suited here.

Last year My buddies and I road the Rock House Trail System.
In late May of this year we plan on hitting up the Bearwallow Trail System.
I read on a different forum that some of the trails on this system have been shut down, having said that the thread was from 2014. Can anyone tell me if these trails are still shut down or are they reopened at this point?

Also, can anyone provide any recommendations on lodging in this area that will afford us the opportunity to hit the trail heads within a reasonable distance where we are not riding the road for long?

I appreciate any insight.

Lost Trails in Scranton PA?

Looking at planning a trip in the spring or summer, one possible destination is the Lost Trails ATV park in Scranton PA. I’m pretty early in the planning stages and looking at a couple destinations (Majestic is another possibility) so I am trying to learn as much as I can from reading at this point…

Having never been to one of these, or any experience with different trail ratings, does any one have any advice or feedback on the the different designations of difficulty?

For example, what would be the difference between a moderately difficult vs a difficult trail? Depth of mud? Steepness? Obstacles? And is a moderately difficult trail something a regular old joe would be able to tackle with little risk to life, limb, and equipment? My experience has been mainly woods and logging road riding, and while I have tackled some steep grades, logs, and ditches, I tend to be pretty conservative in what I will attempt.

I would not want to travel for hours only to ride the easy trails, but I am also reluctant to get there and find that I am not experienced enough to have fun and learn some new things. I really don’t want to watch my brand new machine roll down a hill (watched too many videos of that) or have to dig it out of a mud hole, but I do want to have fun and learn.

I’m probably being overly cautious but I figured this is the place to ask, even if it is a dumb question. Thanks!

Ride n the west

Any thoughts on ride worth trails in NM and Arizona, I am heading that way in late Feb and March to ride and was thinking Cloudcroft and around Apache Junction before going to Nev and Utah to ride and possible places to camp with toy hauler RV:)

Planning a trip out west

I am looking for information based on rider experience to help in planning a trip to Wyoming, Montana and British Columbia next summer. Anyone who has information on riding in these two states and BC please share them with me. I’ve been out West numerous times but never on a off road based trip. The Big Horns are a must and I’ve snowmobiled around Yellowstone but really need solid ATV info. Thanks, and looking forward to hearing some solid advice. Also I know there is a ton of great riding in Colorado and Utah but they are not in the plan this trip.
