96 magnum, no charge issue. funky readings

Hey guys, new the to place here but here a couple weeks ago I got a very clean and nice 96 magnum 425 4×4. Took it on two good rides with a new battery soon as I got the wheeler. First ride went without a hitch, the second ride, lost all battery power. Turns out its not charging of course. So I dug on the good ol internet for testing. I read that the normal stator voltage is suppose to be 30-40v AC current from the stator, I get 230. and yes, 230v according to my meter (Snap On) that I use often during my day job of being a heavy diesel tech. I checked the trigger coil which is suppose to be 97 ohms, I get 103. all yellow wires are OL (no continuity) to ground and less than an ohm of resistance… batter voltage stays at 12.5 no matter the rpm. also during the second ride when I figured this out, It would slightly charge the battery for a little bit but then eventually nothing. If I reved it high enough, the 4wd worked. Now I have no charging from the bike itself and everything still works if I charge the battery with a tender. I also replaced the regulator just to eliminate it but I did get an ebay one. I did see 14.2v at the battery for 2 seconds at start up when I changed it then it went to 12.5. Can the stator over volt? such as my 230v reading, if that’s the case, It looks like I need a stator and another regulator. Thanks guys

Front shock swap

I was wanting to install limit straps on the front of my razor because I’m having issues with the axles pulling out of the front diff. Does anybody know if it’s okay to switch the shots from one side to the other so that I can put the limit straps in the back of the shock. Right now my reservoir is in the way I don’t want to strap rubbing it constantly.

Clicking instead of starting – where to buy parts?

Hey all – I just read through the sticky on my problem – clicking instead of starting. I replaced the battery about a year ago and it always jumps right off. But suddenly yesterday I just got the clicking.

I want to do the testing suggested in the sticky but need to know where to buy a new solenoid, if it turns out I need one. We have a motor sports repair place in town but the owner is a Class A1 ass, so I won’t ever go back to his shop.

I did notice that the wire/cable coming from the battery is frayed – could be the mice that chew on everything here and build condos under the seat through the fall and winter.

Also, the ATV was a gift so I don’t really know what the model or year is. Its a red honda. Is there a serial number look up?

Thank you

Joe

Hi from Montana

Hey folks,
little about me, live in the big sky state, heavy diesel tech with a paper trail long as the sky itself lol, I have a 96 magnum 4×4 that’s very clean with 1700 miles. traded my 01 yz250 for it.

Grizzly Part Numbers Confusion

I’m still working on a 1998 Yamaha Grizzly YFM600FWAK. Why do there seem to be some many different part numbers for same thing? Looking for cam chain:
1. Yamaha gives 94590-27126 Yamaha Motor Canada
2. Motosport OEM gives 94591-40126-00 OEM Yamaha Utility ATV Parts | MotoSport
3. HLSM OEM part finder gives 94591-45126-00

Rules state, cannot post actual links, so the sources are provided.

All these are supposedly for the Grizzly 600 as above. Can anyone explain what is all means and why the different numbers? Possible the numbers change up, but cannot find any information to verify that.
More confusing are the cam chains on Ebay, because many provide the year/model number for compatibility but no part numbers.

800S Shock question

Hey does anyone know the Free length of a fox shock (Front and Back) for a 800s. Also the measurement of the chrome part of the shock to the bumper. Thank you, I need this information for a custom set of shocks Im transforming from an ATV to my RZR.
