New member in Louisville Ky. Never owned an ATV, but I have 2 motorcycles and do my own service and repairs.
Sorry for the long post.
I purchase the 2003 Rancher from my neighbor, it had the shifting problem and he no longer wanted it. he had already replaced the angle sensor and the shift motor.
I test rode the machine using the emergency shift lever. It shifted into all gears, and the display correctly showed the what gear the trans was in.
I am in the process of diagnosing the problem. First it has a fault code of 3 on the display. I used the service manual flow chart, and started testing at the ECM connector. I had an open connection at the connector Black/Red and the Blue/Green wires. Manual calls from 4-6 k ohms.
Pull the connector off the angle sensor. Wire check good between the connectors. Found that the new angle sensor was open at all the terminals.
I had the original sensor the neighbor had changed and checked it. It had the correct ohm readings, but it would swing wildly on the analog meter while you turned it. Plugged the old sensor in to test the wires, and got the correct ohm reading at the ECM plug.
Went to the local Honda dealer this morning. Asked for a new angle sensor. I took my meter to check it before I left the store. He said I could test it, and when I did, it checked open just like the first replacement sensor.
They had a mechanic come out, and he could not get it to read on his meter either. They had 3 of them in stock, and they all checked open. The sensor shaft will turn 360 degrees on the questionable sensors. But on the original sensor it only rotates about 180 degrees before it hits a stop.
So, I have to wait until Tuesday to get some information. The parts manager is calling the factory to see what is going on. Once I get a good sensor, I will dissect the bad one to see what is wrong inside.
I don’t really need any questions answered yet, because I can’t do further testing without a good angle sensor. I just wanted to give you guys a heads up about a possible angle switch problem.
I have a power commander v and autotune with the pod 300 digital display. Everything is a week old and i thought it would be something i could get to work. I have decided to go another route. This is for a 2012 xp 900. Part number 19-017. The auto tune is a single channel . I’m buying a 900 trail eps this week, and want to get an enclosed cab. Been looking online, seems the factory polaris setup is about 2k msrp when you add the all the sections and doors. Ouch. If you have the polaris setup, did you get any dealer discounts and what did you have to pay?
Then again, it seems like there are some aftermarket canvas cabs that are much cheaper.
Please post up photos and info of your cabs, what you like and don’t like and pricing I can expect.
I appreciate the help, looking forward to riding in the rain in an enclosed dry cab!
Also want to get a heater – appreciate any info on which ones work great and cost less…
hey, resently installed bom super mag cams …. i got them all in no problem so i beleive haha anyways i cant keep it idleing i have to have my hand on the throttle a little bit to keep it idleing…. i also dont ahve my clutches on right now so is it possible without having my primary clutch on the bike need that added weight to keep the bike ideling well ? if it was out of time i would get an engine light right? P0339 probably ?
I got the 400 from a guy who hit a deer with it he said. broke his arm and collar bone and wanted it gone. most of the plastics were cracked or broken but it ran great….for a while. Now I have to remove plug, and spray carb cleaner in to get it to start, then it wont idle I have to hold slight throttle to keep it going, and when I give it throttle to go it bogs down and cuts out. What is going on with it? rebuilt carb, new plug, messed with idle and air screw, no change.
In case anyone was wondering if you can shim a 1k into a 1500 short bed the answer is yes. The question is would any of you take a 4 hour trip like this? I’m thinking I don’t trust the cables enough to try it.
Do you guys think this is a problem? If you can’t see it it is a piece that is uneven on the axle. It’s the part of the axle between the left tire and the differential on a honda recon.

I need some help in deciding what is the best course of action. I have a 1994 Trail Boss 250 2 wheel drive. It needs a transmission or new gears in my transmission. Two teeth are broken off of the big gear and two teeth are broken off the small gear. Also found small pieces of a spacer. Pieces that are broken, look similar to the spacer that is partially visible above the broken small gear. Not sure what it is called. What would be the most economical to get the atv running again.
thanks
