Replacement hardware kits?

For some of the hardware used on RZR’s, why are those tapered self-threading style bolts used instead of normal straight bolts like the Japanese brands use? I noticed some of the OEM replacement chassis/frame parts that you order don’t have threads in the holes, you can just use the tapered bolts to make the threads. Is it better to use actual thread taps instead, then use regular straight bolts wherever possible? (newb questions – recently got my first RZR)

Are there any kind of aftermarket/higher-quality/better looking hardware kits available for RZRs (XP1000), or is a hardware store the best bet?
And which hardware/bolts on the XP1000 do you think should be upgraded for better quality/strength and looks?

Safety concern: frame bung only welded half way on at roll cage

While helping a friend of mine this evening add a couple of things to his machine I noticed a hairline crack in powder coat on the front drivers side frame bung at rollcage. Inspected a little closer and asked if I could pick at it a little to see what was going on there. Removed a little powder coat and saw that weld was beginning to crack. So at this point stood back for a minute and pondered, what would cause this. Looked over whole cage for other signs or stress, none. So back to the frame bung that bolts to rollcage and see now that the bung was only welded half way around to join it to the frame. I was a bit shocked and my friend is not sure how he should proceed with this. My initial suggestion was to let Polaris make it right, however I think we are talking about a front frame replacement as I don’t see any dealer around here welding on the frame. His warranty just ran out a week ago. I think Polaris would want to fix something like this if for no other reason than liability. Has anyone dealt with frame weld issues? I can’t imagine this is the only machine that was put out to the public like this. I would like to think we could fix this ourselves, remove some plastics, do some grinding, welding and touch up. I hate to see him without machine for who knows how long, so dealer can put a front frame section in. Something has to be done to be able to safely ride. I also now will need to thoroughly check all welds on my machine before I will be able to ride. Anyone have any constructive advice as to what would be a reasonable course of action. I know there are guys on here that could easily fix something like this, any advice? Would it be structurally sound after welding, possibly weaken it or unknown? Getting the stuff out of the way to prep for weld is not a problem. Welding on the factory frame is a little questionable, I guess for both of us. Hiring a pro welder is not a problem, but will it be as good as it should have been when it left factory. It’s not about fault it’s about fixing. This is not a jump on Polaris free for all. That is not why I started this thread and If that’s what you have to offer please put it in another thread. Please advise, is repair doable without compromising integrity of frame? I don’t want my buddy in a death trap of our own making. With what all I have read about putting in aftermarket roll cages makes me nervous to get frame welded on at the location holding roll cage. Advisable to disconnect ecu and battery before welding? If this thing was a house we would already have it fixed. Lol

Hello from Utah

Well I finally bought a rzr a couple weeks ago and have been reading lots of good info on this forum so I figured I had better join. I picked up a 2015 Orange Madness XP 1000 and man do I love it! I got it on the 14th of this month and have 356 miles on the ol’ girl now! I have an aluminum roof and lower door fill in panels drawn up in autocad right now and hopefully soon ill get a chance to cut them out on the laser at work. Also soon to come is a light bar, stereo system, and bumpers. Custom of course. My dad has a 50" rzr 800 and wants to upgrade after riding in the XP1k! Ill try to get pictures posted of my custom accessories as i build them. Its cool to check out all the builds on here!
Pictures are on the links, I dont know how to get them to post outright yet 🙁

Just bought my 1st quad. Kodiak 450

Well, finally got a quad. Kodiak 450, 2006. 1600 miles, winch, plow, gun/bow holders. It has a big Koplin hard box, butt because it’s always me and my 7yo son, I just ordered a Tamarack Luxury Lounger and fender guards with passenger foot pegs. Super clean machine. Owner used it on hunting land he leased. Lease was up, sold his machine. Got it for $3200. Definitely money well spent! My future mods will be some kind of storage for the front-hard or soft bag/box, led’s, considering the Yamaha fairing with windshield cause I really like the look (I think) wondering if I should get bigger tires once these go..? Anyway, I put a cpl pics up

Dmoney motor build

Just wanted to start a post for my up coming motor build through Alba racing. This can be a place for Nate and myself to share information and hopefully help someone else looking for a place to take there RZR for motor work.

For those that do not know, Nate and Alba Racing is probably one the number one 1 guys in the country when it comes to customer service and support for RZR upgrades.

I started dealing with Nate back in 2011 or 2012 when I built my 800 with a big bore kit and several other items they offer. Nate was able to put together a complete rebuild kit over the phone. When the kit arrived I started putting everything back together and realized the wrong head gasket was sent. I was in a hurry to get my RZR back together and was extremely pissed the wrong head gasket was included with their big bore kit. I called Nate rather pissed off. Surprised I got any help as I was being a total prick. Nate grabbed the right part for me and over nighted it to my house. Great job Nate, not sure I would have handled it the same on the other end of the phone.

I have dealt with Nate many times over the phone and through messages on the board. I really think the guy ever sleeps. He had always been there to help me. Sometimes the problems were not even his responsibility.

Moving on to the up coming engine build.

A little history:

I bought a boosted RZR used. I blew the motor after a few hundred miles. I then took my RZR to K&T for a rebuild to include pistons, cylinder, springs, buckets and head. A few thousand dollars later she was up and running like a beast. Not sure there is any thing more fun than riding a wheelie over the top of a small dune.

Now about 1500 miles later I am starting to burn a little oil. RZR still runs great, just burns oil. I stopped into Nate’s shop back in March to schedule a May build date. I think the problem is the valve guides, but I would like some Carillo rods put in just to protect the motor.

So here are my expectations of the upcoming build.

As most know, the rods are the deepest part of the motor. To install rods requires a full disassembly of the motor. So by installing rods I also get a fresh rebuild as the motor goes back together.

What I would like to see from Nate:

One or two quick base line dyno pulls. Just to see where we started from.

Pull motor
Strip motor to install rods
New bearings and any other wear items
Hopefully my cylinders can be reused
Head work to include valve guides

Items in question:
Should the oil pump be replaced?
Should the water pump be replaced?
Are turbo cams worth the money?
Is the Alba Racing re-flash on the computer worth the money?

The questions above are the main reason I would like to see a base line dyno run.

If it fits in the budget, I would like cams and computer re-flash.

Oh and just to make this all the more difficult, Nate has 1 week to finish all this work. I will be in town from 4 May to 8 May. Then I depart for Rally on the Rocks in Moab on 11 May.

I will not have a chance to drive the RZR from the time I pick it up to the time I arrive in Moab. I am crossing my fingers this all works out. Scratch that, this all MUST work out. Between the motor build and the Moab trip, there are a few thousand dollars on the line.

Nate, get ready! See you next week.

I have the RZR torn down for you.

WTB stock spark arrestor

I am needing 2 stock spark arrestors from a 11-14 XP 900. Bought a RZR with slp exhaust and no arrestors. I am riding in the Forrest next weekend and need them. SLP uses stock arrestors. Thanks in advance. Shipping would be to 74055 zipcode.

Will a rancher turn 28″ mayhems

Ok so in a few weeks I’m going to buy a used rancher 420 sra 4×4 and I am going to be completely modding it out. One of the first things I am going to do is buy fronts 28x9x14 rears 28x11x14 mega mayhems on itp hurricanes. I was wondering if I will need to do any mods such as a clutch kit or gr?should I just go with 27"? i really want 14" rims but if I can’t pull the tires there isn’t a point. Gr are expensive and I’m wanting to stay clear of them if possible. Thanks
