newbie needs help

Hi Guys and Girls:
I am in the process of buying my first RZR. I plan to buy a used machine, probably an 800CC or 900CC.
My 18 year old nephew and my 65 year old wife both plan to drive it so I can see differing driving styles. I live in Ontario Canada but we’ll keep the machine in the BC mountains (semi arid climate but lots of rivers/creeks/etc).
I see lots for sale and I wonder what I should look for.
So, here are a couple of questions for you.
1. Suspension. Are the stock components satisfactory or should I upgrade?
2. Mud bogging…I see some machines advertised as "never mud bogged". I assume mud bogging creates extra stress on the machine so that is something I want to avoid?
3. Engine and drivetrain. Anything I should look for?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance Doug

Reverse troubles

Sometimes when I shift into reverse I hear it slipping or grinding and it will not engage. If i put it in foward it will go and usually will then shift into reverse ok. Sometimes I have to try 2-3 times though. What do I need to adjust there?

thanks

I know this is a double thread, but more people visit this forum than where I originally posted.
Anyone else having problems? I know it’s not just me after doing a search.
This site has so much advertising, and now with gumgum, I can hardly get on this site anymore, and get booted out quite often once I do get to log on. Most of the time the site is just locked up, and I can’t log in or click on anything. Don’t know if the admins can do anything about all the ads, and the new gumgum ad format, but if things don’t change, I won’t be spending much more time on this site. I know all the advertising money is nice, but I also know for a fact it doesn’t take near this much advertising to fund a forum!
Other big forums, such as can-am and RZR forums are the same. They all use the same format, as well as the excessive amount of advertising, just like here.

How to adjust the clutch on utility atv’s

Ok gang, I see a lot of members, new and old ?..having trouble with their atv’s not wanting to move ?, jumping when put into gear ?. so here is a simple way to adjust your clutch for any atv model that has a auto clutch. here is how I do them, I will loosen the 14mm locking nut on the front cover, then I turn the center screw/bolt counter clockwise until I starts to feel tight ?. then I go back roughly 1/4 in clockwise, then I tighten down the lock nut while holding the center screw/bolt in place. now..to check to see if you adjusted it correctly ?, get on, start the atv up, with your left foot ( if your on a manual shift ? ), lift the foot shift lever up…AND HOLD IT THERE !, while doing this..rev the throttle..the atv should not move at all ?. let off on the throttle back down to idle. then let the foot shift lever back down. again..the atv should not move ” creep ” at all ?..until you give it throttle !. if it is idling to high ?..when you let the foot shift down..yes..it will move, ” creep ”. if for some reason it moves at all when you lift the foot shift lever up and holding it there..and it wants to move ?..then turn it off, go back and re-do the adjusting..because it is not right !. your aiming for a smooth shift..and to get a smooth shift ?..you have to have the clutch adjusted right !. ok..now your asking me..”ok shade..i did the adjusting like you said”..but it will not move ” ???..ok..then do this..if you look on the front cover for the words <— decrease, increase —-> ( these words maybe covered in mud ?..lol ) but they are they !!!. loosen the lock nut again, and turn the center nut some more clockwise, tighten down the lock nut while holding the center screw/bolt. then start it up, shift it into gear..and see if it ” grabs ” better ?..if it does not ?..then more than likely..your change clutch friction disk are worn too much ?..and no matter how many times you adjust the clutch ?..it won’t help !. you will need new friction disk. now..you can remove the front cover, ( drain the oil, or flip it on its rear end )…and pull the centrifugal clutch, then the change clutch, and get the friction disk out, and mic them, and see if they are still within spec’s ?, if they are out of service limit ?, then yes..you will need new friction disk. please keep in mind…YOU CAN NOT USE REG AUTO OIL IN ATVS !..THEY HAVE TO HAVE OIL MADE FOR ENGINES WITH A WET CLUTCH !!!..if you use reg auto oil ?..then the clutches will slip in due time !..and all your going to do is burn your clutches up !. I hope this helps at least one person on here ?..if not ?..well.i tried !..lol.

30 inch silverback are not a tough tire

got about 150 km on my silverback 30 inch-11 inch and 9 inches in front. They are bulging everywhere, I’m running 9 pounds in them, they told me to run 12 pounds because they crack so I ran 12 pounds and they started bulging, now I’m running 9 in them 1 front lug cracked and still bulging, never did any high speed with them

be warned

looking to change up my shoes and rims

question for all you RZR guru’s out there, I picked my 900 trail up last night and absolutely love it, I want to customize her a little bit and want to start with tires, im looking at something like mega mehyems or something with a really aggressive tread as there is a lot of muskeg where I ride, if i want to widen my stance a bit, what type of negative offest rims would i look at getting or can i acheive a few extra inches just by buying the appropriate tires, id really like to move from the 26" to a 28" or 29"! :ok: can i manage this without a clutch kit off the hop and see how i like it? and input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
