I’ve read a lot of these posts today about how to wire up extra lights but I still have some questions.
I was thinking of wiring from the power wire of the winch or the acc. plug because it would only be powered when the key is on. I would connect from there and place an inline fuse and then connect to the switch. The switch is a 30amp lighted switch. From there I would run to my LED light. I would run a ground wire from the light to the switch and to the negative side of the battery. Does this sound correct? I don’t think there is a need to use a relay for one LED light with a 30amp switch. I do not want to connect this light through my high/ low beam switch. Any advice or step by step instructions would be great. I’d hate to burn up my brand new Grizzly!!
First Timer here…
I recently purchased a 2009 Special Edition 550 Grizzly that had been used extremely little. I’ve had it out several times in the last few months and it’s ran perfectly. This weekend it began missing (almost like it was against a rev limiter but was not at high rpm) only when it was in 4 wheel drive. Then it would run fine in 2 w/d. I checked it again last night at home and it did the same thing…only did it in 4 w/d. Two weeks ago it ran fine in 4w/d. Any help or ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
A couple pics of my new hunting ground up on the west coast of Scotland. It’s a great piece with this block of replanted conifer, the other 2 plots are a mix of mature, half grown and replant. Some nice open areas and great views.
We have alot of deer to come off here between 9 of us who have bought the lease. So should have a few good years up there.
Caravan has a little wood stove in it so lovely and warm in the hard winter months. This is the summer camp where the breeze will keep the midges away. In winter we will move it to a more sheltered place.
Now I’ve done enough posts I thought you might like a picture of my stock quad at work. I use it fairly often around the yard. Today I felled a tree as part of clearing an area for the new workshop. Logged it up and now ready to split and go in the shed for winter after next. I like to start cutting wood as soon as winter over so it gets 2 summers to dry under cover.
Box on front is a carcass tray used when out deer stalking to bring animals back to camp. Another tray goes on the back so I can carry two or three at a time.
Got to modify the gun rack as it restricts the steering when the rifles are in place.
Other than that she’s now going great after a new one way bearing, re-grease the primary and a few other maintenance things. Note the new step. Very expensive for a bit of plastic but the old one was cracked and it bugged me, so a new one fitted.
So I just purchased an 08 525 IRS w/ a blown motor. Everything else is in great shape. My friend who will be doing the work already owns an 06 500 IRS and an 08 525 IRS.
The motor was already torn down and my questions are these: if I need a new cylinder, head, crank, rod, piston etc… Are these all available retail still? Also if I need all of that the cost will appear to be comparable to buying the THUMPER 549 kit. Would that be a wise option as well. I’m really more interested in reliability than power as the stock ktm has all the power I need but thought if the price is similar it’s worth the upgrade. Any tips/advice would be appreciated.
Went out for a 490 km beating this weekend. We ran deep mud and water and a lot of bush rock and sticks. Couldn’t think of a better spot for the battery it’s the only thing that didn’t get covered in sand and mud. Even my rear seat storage box had mud in it.
A few years back I built 30-40 sets of these nerf bars/rock sliderz and sold them on ebay and to a few GC members. They worked fantastic and the feedback I got on their durability was top notch but there simply wasn’t a large enough demand for me to continue to produce them so I stopped. I had two pairs left – one pair I sold on my 550 (pictured below) in 2014. They were still 100% solid after 500+ hours on the trail and heavy testing in the Ozark mountains.
This is my last set that I kept in case I ever bought another Grizzly. I’ve since hauled them around on two moves and decided during a recent garage cleanup that I would part with this last pair. They are brand new, never been installed and powdercoated black.
These will bolt right up to any 2012 or older Yamaha Grizzly 550/700. They do not require any cutting or modification of the factory footwells.

Took the 57o out on the trails and Silver Lake Sand Dunes with 1000 can am and a 400ex, it did awesome!! Don’t know if it made a difference, first time on the sand, but I put my rear tires on backwards. Made it up test hill at the dunes faster than a 400 with paddles!
In drags the 400 kept about 1/2 a quad length over about 200 yards, very close race, and of course the can am was about 10 out!
Overall I am very impressed with its performance.
