Sigh…metal shavings in oil

85 trx250a

Picked this thing up 6 months or so ago. It was in a barn for probably 5+ years, but engine rotated freely and felt like it had great compression. I rebuilt the carb, chamged engine and diff oil, rebuilt brake adjusters, master cylinder, wheel cylinders, brake cables, etc. got it running ok, checked compression and was 160 cold, so within spec. After I had it running, I noticed a slight tick so I checked the chain tensioner and adjusted the valves. The valves seemed to be within spec, but I readjusted anyhow. The noise seemed to go away and engine sounds good.

Fast forward to about 2am this morning. The drain plug is stripped so I was going to fix it. I drain the oil and out of habit, I look in the oil and see quite a few metal shavings. I refilled with new oil and ran a compression check and it is now reading 150psi cold. Engine still runs smoothly, not sure what might have happened. So I am guessing my next step is tearing the engine down. Any ideas of what to look for?

I forgot to mention. On the first oil change I did. I checked the old filter which was installed correctly, but was slightly collapsed and I did find one or two small shavings in the old filter which had me concerned at the time, but nothing like this. The old filter was installed correctly and I made sure I installed the new filter correctly. With all the shaving I found now, I could not find a single shaving in the oil filter. I didn’t tear it apart since I didn’t have a spare to replace it with.

Rear Storage … SuperATV or Polaris?

I am going to buy a rear storage box for my 2012 800S LE after riding on a few trips using multiple bags, coolers, etc used for storing items. I am going to order either the SuperATV rear cargo box for $189.95 …
Polaris RZR Rear Cargo Box : Polaris : RZR S 800 : RZR S Accessories

or I am going to buy the Polaris Lock and Ride Cargo Box for $249.99 …
RZR 570, 800, S & 4 Lock & Ride Cargo Box | Polaris RZR Store

Here is my ride with the rear cage supports which limits my options …

For those of you who have one of these or both, which one do you prefer? SuperATV is an Indiana-based company and I have been very satisfied with their products/service. I don’t much care for the locking latch that I can see in their pictures but I think I can make that better.

Straightening a bent rack.

Has anyone had good success with straightening a bent rack? My rear rack was bent from the previous owner tipping it on its side. The support bars that come from the frame are not bent, just the rack itself. I plan to take it off and see if i can straighten it.

Anyone have a good method for this? My plan is to remove it from the ATV, heat the 2 spots where it bent and try using a crow bar or another method to bend it back

Rear tow points

Whats everyone using for towing from the rear (pulling someone or being pulled)? The obvious answer seems to be to put a D-Ring in the hole for the ball. Is anyone using anything else there? My only thought about that is the ring rattling could annoying.
