Trail Armor Skids
I ordered full UHMW 1/2" skids for my ’14 RZR 900 Stealth Black. These things are a beast compared to the skimpy factory skid. They bolted directly up with minor drilling.
Using them in the mud and rocks, the skids slide over everything. They work wonders compared to aluminum skids that I’ve used previously on quads.
On my 3rd ride out, I bent a rear axle on the RZR. Looking at the rear axles, I noticed wear marks on both axles at approximately 1/3 of the way down the axle. Once I jacked up the rear end and let the suspension fully extend, I could see the wear marks were from the axles coming in contact with the skid plate.
I let Trail Armor know the issue I was having. They promptly replied to my email and within days, had a XP 900 in their shop to conduct a mock-up. They concluded that the axle was close but not touching the skid. They took it a step further and tested it under extreme conditions (unbolting the shock and applying a downward force) and concluded that it was impossible for the axle to bend due to the skid since the skid would bend before the axle would. In the meantime, I notched out a piece of the skid to ensure proper clearance. I let Trail Amour know I notched the skid and they replied to let me know it was possible for the skid to fail due to the type of cuts I made. Trail Armor offered to send me a new rear skid that had slightly different geometry to clear the axle and also provided me with a 10% off coupon code.
It’s not often now-a-days for good customer support. This is a rare example of it! Thank you once again, Nick and Allison for helping me with this issue!
As most of you know, the axles on the XP 900 are a weak point. They probably bent due to impact from something…just not sure what!
Double Down Review
Installation:
The install was pretty easy and quick. Didn’t measure on the air box lid for the holes, just put the cylinders on the corners where they laid flat and marked the center. When it came to the box of the bed, I used the measurements given. I am a little confused with the seal kit. I got the black gasket in on the main air box, but the lid gasket (red gasket) seemed to be too small and not sure how to install it. Also the outer wear screens I was not sure where to install those.
Noise:
At idle I did not notice any difference in noise. From 0-20, I notice noise. Throaty grumble. not loud, just noticeable. I love the sound of it. from about 30 and up you it sounds like there is an exhaust in the cab, but its just the tubes sucking air. Little different from what I was used to, but after some time riding, I got used to it and liked the noise it made. Still would be able to talk over it and hear music over it.
Performance:
The biggest gains I noticed was from 40 mph to 60 mph. This thing pulled hard from 40-60 and was there in no time. I did have a new Gates belt on, so im not sure if it was the belt or intake, and was a fresh top end. Never tried hitting top speed.
Stopping Dirt. I sprayed some air filter sticky stuff on the foam pre filter that that comes with the kit, and checked my air filter after the ride. The pre foam filter was very dirty, and the stock paper filter was pretty good. Wasn’t bright white like new but didn’t seem to have sand falling out of it.
I like the kit so far. Just want to figure out how to install the outter wears and the red gasket. I hope it keeps dirt out of the motor and my air filters a little cleaner. I have only had it on one ride. Didn’t run my rzr very hard tho.
Question tho, with the foam pre filter, can I unsnap the foam from the plastic and wash it?? do you sell a replacement foam pre filter?

Easiest way to change out the “thingymaginger”?

Best shocks for the money.
idle mixture screw ?? location
The bike has been sitting for the past 5-6 years, I took the carb and cleaned it out I’m confident it’s good and clean –
The qud runs great over top the idle circuit. It’s starving when I bring it down to idle rpm.
Can anyone explain to me where I would find the screw? I need to add more fuel at idle.
I’m super curious to know how many turns out the screw is. I bet it’s tight.
Thanks GUYS.
570RZR storage area aluminum deck plate
I had looked at the Pepboys web site and they sell Mylar radiant matte screen that reflects 2000 degrees F. Its 36"x40". Plenty big enough to do the job. That was our next stop. Pep Boys has several different types. I went with the aluminized cloth. They also have a style with fiberglass inside. Not good as if you cut it possibly it will get wet in water and be ruined. This matte is made by DEI and Part# 010401 sku#9961315. I used 3M spray adhesive. Seems to hold so far. Pebboys sells DEI high Temp adhesive spray.
I went on line to Lowes and could not find the aluminum deck plate. Maybe its a store by store sale. If you get the DEI heat screen confirm the part number as I don’t want you to be angry if its not the stuff you want.
It looks good and I am proud of the job. I can’t get photos of it to load so I will post a link in another post
