Piston Slap

so long story short….i got this 85 trx125 from a buddy of mine. it had the infamous no spark problem, which was fixed by replacing the cdi, coil and spark plug. it fires up great now……until a couple months ago, the motor started knocking. im 90% sure its piston slap.

ive heard that if you pull the motor and take the head and piston off, some guys online will machine it and send it back with all the necessary parts to put it back on. after some heavy googling, i havent found a reliable source that would do it. so any reliable good shops to do it would be awesome. i have no problem pulling the motor itself. but i dont have the tools to machine stuff down. and what about cost? this is obviously a budget build.

would a crate used motor be cheaper?

2r and filter question

So tried to research as much as I could in regards to my 2r racing tip that I’m picking up tommorow ,I have read about some guys running lean and backfiring on decel,some also say to make sure atv is broken in before tip is installed or a pod mid maybe required.My question is I just done my first service I have 250kms and approx 13 hours on it.There shouldn’t be a problem running this tip now is there? Also what air filter should I run with it? Right now I’m just gonna keep stick airfilter but will change ut out very soon.Thanks guys in advance.:gcrules:

Powermadd I Stand on guard

Does anyone have pictures of there powermadd handguards I see they have part 34269 Tri-Mount which makes install easier.Are the powermadd good? I see I need to buy the tri mount they purchased the hand guards seperate for my 2015.Also I took my tip off and assembley for the install of my 2r tip does anyone have any issues with there 2015’s and that tip.l wanted a bit more grunt and not an annoying exhaust so just going with the tip for now but have read on here about some having stalling problems and some don’t?

Shift out speed mph

What mph are you guys machine shifting out at with 26 " tires? I understand it’ll be different for everyone but trying to see where others are at.
I’m trying to dial in my dalton kit on a new team primary and didn’t get very far. It seemed like at 58-5900 rpms it slowed down but there wasnt a real pause on the tach it just slowed down a lil and was easier to read. I was hitting about 50 mph and running out of room. Wondering if I wasn’t in it long enough and was almost there, I got upto 6150 but it was a slow pull and I figured it shifter out way before then.
I started with the alum tip weights pressed in and 3 long screws and it seemed to be around 5750 and round after round i ended up removing all the screws and drilled out the tip weights I still only seemed to be around 5900 so I was thinking I’m not seeing the shift out. Also didn’t seem to feel.much difference between all the weights maybe from 5700 to 5900.
I don’t think it’s because of my mods because I don’t think a bb kit and muffler is anything radical just wondering what I’m missing.

I’m gonna call Todd tomorrow for some help bit looking for more here as well.

2000 trx400ex

Hello all, been lurking here for a bit. Nice forum, good knowledge.

I am looking at a 200 TRX400EX, here are the issues that I know about.

No rear brake caliper, found several on ebay for less than $100.
Needs a clutch, found them between $50-150 from varies places.

What I need to know, how do I check the transmission and gears if the clutch is toasted?

He say’s the motor runs and will fire right up, ok, good. But how to check the other major areas of the quad if the clutch is not working?
