2004 Honda Foreman S cooling fan

I hope somebody can answer my question. I have a 2004 Foreman S in my shop. Original complaint: fan doesn’t come on and no temp light but seems to be getting really hot. I replaced the temp switch and the fan works but at the same time the light comes on. When the fan quites the light goes out. Customer says this has never operated this way before. I called the Honda dealer and they told me it is working fine. The customer insist it is not. That before the fan would come on and not the light. So I replaced the fan control unit, same thing: fan comes on so does the light, fan goes out so does the light. So is this the way it is supposed to operate?

86 fourtrax vacuum fuel pump

Hey guys,

I just bought a 1986 fourtrax 350(my wife took over the TRX 250 while I was deployed). It wouldn’t start and I’ve narrowed it down to the fuel pump. I called a local shop to get a replacement and he said he converts to to a vacuum pump. It seems like something I could do myself if I had some guidance. If anybody and has any examples with pics that’d be great!
Also, what happens to the cut out relay when it no longer has a pump to talk to?

Thank you for any info!

Rear rack extender installation problem

I have a 2014 Sportsman 400 and I’m trying to install a rear rack extender (Part # 2878672). I am having a problem getting the two rear most self-tapping screws to reach the mounting threads on the rack. The supplied screws are 1/4"-20 x 1 3/4" It is like they are not long enough to reach the mounting threads on the rear rack. Has anyone run into this before?
I installed the front rack extender last week and it attached without any problems.
I’m considering going to Lowes or Home Depot and getting a 2 inch 1/4"-20 bolts. I think the extra 1/4 inch length will allow it to reach.
Any suggestions?

Wet ride

Buddy and I don’t mind hopping thru some water maybe 3/4 the way up the tires to get thru a spot, but fri evening ended up getting a lil deeper than either of us like. Leave from my place, hop in the timber and there’s a minimum 1 creek crossing to continue to our land to ride. We knew the river was up due to ridiculous amounts of rain the last month, and creek was a little higher than usual (this spot my wife and daughter can ride their trailboss 330’s across normally)

We bother got across heading down to land okay, coming back I didn’t do the horseshoe pattern enough to have current help me across and ended up digging in. Buddy was gunna throw his winch line out, but the hook ripped off the rope, so while he was jacking around, I figured I’d rather just get across it and be done, so hopped dyck deep in the water and winched myself out. Got water in clutch housing and thankfully polaris put the drain plug in a near unacceible location that also requires tools to remove, so had to just keep goosing it to force the water out the rear housing outlet. Got home fine, checked all the fluids tonight and everything is still clear and clean, but definately not something I want to do again anytime soon.

Jackass laughing at me

Grizzly didn’t have any problems…again..argh. first pass is on way to our land, second is coming home

450 or 570? AAAH!

So I’m looking to purchase my first atv. My wife and I just inherited a 97 sportsman 400 2 stroke and I’m looking for a second atv for me to ride.

I’m considering the 450 over the 570 mainly due to price in my area. I can’t justify the $6500 that the 570 demands.

I guess I’m hoping that this thread pushes me toward the 450 but let’s see what happens.

Questions:
1) I know the 450 is the same engine as the 570 tuned for lower horse power. As a result am I okay to assume that the 450 will have more torque and therefore acceleration off the line?

2) how would the 450 compare to the 400 we have?

3) I’m not overly concerned with top speed, more so how quickly I can get there, what difference should I expect?

4) what is the top speed of each anyway?

Thanks so much…
Zach

First Fluid Change in 2015 Phoenix

This is the first time changing the oil/trans and rear in my daughter 2015 Phoenix. The owners manual says the oil capacity on change is 41 oz. The side of the motor says 1.2 quarts (which is 38 oz) 38 oz fills the oil glass to the top not to center. When the quad is running the oil is at the center of the glass. should it be at the center while the machine is off? I’m thinking yes but that would be about 32 oz of oil.
The trans said 18.6 oz and that puts is right at the center of that glass.
How much oil have you guys put in it?
