Welding

Just wondering who else here knew how to weld. I learned this past year from my dad who has been welding for years and another friend who has his own little business fixing trucks and wheelers.

Engine oil

What weight oil is the recommended XPS Synthetic blend oil summer grade 293600121 for the outlander? Is this,a 4 stroke 5w30w? I would rather use amsoil.

Check those Bolts before you ride!!!!

Just wanted to pass on a little bit of wisdom. My buddy with his almost new 850 just had his upper rear a-arm bolt fall out during a ride last month.

We were back in the sticks and could not find the bolt. Ended up using an Allen wrench for a temp bolt, duct tape and wire ties to hold it in.

Before my ride I was checking everything out and the right rear upper A-arm bolt was loose. I torqued it and all was fine. Just seemed odd that the right rear bolt fell out on his as well.

As you can see in the picture you don’t want this to happen 15 miles from the parking lot.

1st time GRIZZLY owner –

Hey guys, I’m John – from Senoia, GA.

A few weeks back I traded a 17′ LOWE (w/a 90hp Yamaha Jet Drive) for an ’03 GRIZZLY. – I’m currently working on the GRIZZLY. The previous owner didn’t respect it in any way what so ever!! – he left it outdoors, uncovered and untouched for the last 5-6 years. It’s got 1200 original miles on it.

I’ve taken the entire quad apart to clean and inspect it. It was covered in ‘mold’. It was everywhere. Horrible actually.

But other than that, the only other issues were the carb being junked up, the right rear axle boot ripped and the very rear of the frame is RUSTED pretty bad from sitting with water and trash stuck in the engine/differential guard.

I cleaned all the jets in the carb and it starts up nice, however, I believe it’s got a vacuum leak. it’ll ‘pop’ back at idle and die — anything over idle it sounds as it should.

I haven’t had the chance to ride it because, after I cleaned the jets – I was swapping the axle, and while attempting to get the knuckle off of the original axle – the bearing came apart.

That just happened on Saturday, so I’ve got to call around and see if I can get a bearing.

Thanks guys, I’ll be posting some pics as soon as I can get it together.

I am afraid I’m going to have issues with the carb, for some reason I can just ‘feel’ it. I’ve rebuild lots of carbs in my day, however, this one I cant figure out where the lines go.

The carb has been taken apart in the past. So Im dealing with that- (there were three vacuum lines not connected when I started digging into it) I’m looking for a good schematic, but haven’t found one yet. And I haven’t done a lot of ‘searching’ here -you know life gets in the way.

Thanks again everyone – you guys make a really nice forum! –
