help predator newb

So I picked up a Polaris predator last week that had at Polaris pure slip-on and I just added a uni filter upon cleaning the carburetor I replace the main jet with a 165 and reinstall when I disassembled the carburetor I took off the choke circuit and access to the fuel bowl without detaching the throttle linkage my problem is when i reassemble the car and reinstalled it I couldn’t get the bike to start until I manually choke the carburetor by putting my hand over the air inlet and when it did start it was at wide open throttle I cut off the engine shortly thereafter because the header pipe started to turn red hot just wondering what could cause this I hate messing with carborators because they’re so delicate I made sure anything I touched was thoroughly cleaned and the only part that I disassembled was the main jet as well as the air fuel screw adjusted to two and a half turns out any help would be greatly appreciated as I don’t want to have to take it to a shop

03 Predator 500 Flywheel is not aligned

Purchase a predator that would not run, prior owner replaced the starter one way bearing and just put the flywheel back on without paying attention to the timing mark. So I think the flywheel may be way off. My question is what should the flywheel mark be aligned with when installing?

05 predator 500 transmission advice

Last year my chain snapped, punched a whole in my crankcase and broke 3 teeth off the gears in my transmission. Despite my lack of special tools I’ve been able to get it all apart. Figured I would just order a new set of gears off ebay and throw it back together with new gaskets. Well this morning as I was putting the new set in I discovered that some gears are slightly different sized and the main rod wont fit inside the bearing of my crankcase.

My question is… why? Are there different size gears for different years? Are there different models? If I find a bearing that would fit it would it work or would it cause other problems? The problem I’m having now is that I can’t find more gears on ebay and I kind of need to finish this week… any ideas or suggestions? Where else could I shop and how can I make sure they’ll be the right size?

P.s. the seller on ebay said the parts were off the same year predator 500.

Battery Not Recharging

All,
I have a 03 predator. I have been overseas for a while but I am coming home soon and one of my buddies is rebuilding it for me. We are having problems with the electrical system. Problems that I have tried to fix before but evidently I haven’t. The problem is that when you start the bike, it runs off of the battery for electrical power. It can not recharge the battery because of how much of a charge it is pulling to run the bike. When the four wheeler was new I constantly replaced the bendix because of the starting issues this four wheeler is known for. As of right now, I figure this could be one or both of 2 things. One-The battery is simply not recharging. Two-Something is not telling the bike to pull from the stator (or whatever it should pull form) on the bike once it has started. Honestly, I am an aircraft mechanic and not a four wheeler mechanic. I am just using logic and I hope I am not thinking too deep or missing something obvious. If anyone is a guru and might have an idea of some parts to through at it…please let me know. I really want to get this rolling before I get home so that I can enjoy the little time I get on American soil. Thanks guys!

Frustrated!! starter clutch issue

Hey guys. im new to the Polaris Predator and im getting very frustrated with the starter clutch. Bolts backed out of the old one and wrecked the starter clutch. Ive put in a new one way assembly and woodruff key. The starter gear looks fine. no scoring, scratches or broken teeth anywhere on any of the surfaces. I replaced the roller bearings for the starter gear with new one. The fly wheel is fine and the smaller roller gears are fine with no chipped teeth. With all parts installed and torqued down the starter gear free spins counter clockwise and locks up clockwise which from what ive read is how its supposed to work. When i hit the starter button the starter gear spins counter clockwise and the whole system just spins free and does not start the machine. Ive had it apart multiple times now and cannot for the life of me figure it out. I know its near impossible but could the starter be spinning backwards? As its assembled now the starter spins clockwise. Is that the correct way it should spin?? I’ve been through the starter wiring and how i have it wired matches the polaris wiring diagram. Ive done this fix a bunch of times on my Yamaha’s and never had an issue. Im frustrated at this point and i do not want to take it to a dealer for a stupid fix that im overlooking. Anyone have any ideas???
