Frustrated!! starter clutch issue

Hey guys. im new to the Polaris Predator and im getting very frustrated with the starter clutch. Bolts backed out of the old one and wrecked the starter clutch. Ive put in a new one way assembly and woodruff key. The starter gear looks fine. no scoring, scratches or broken teeth anywhere on any of the surfaces. I replaced the roller bearings for the starter gear with new one. The fly wheel is fine and the smaller roller gears are fine with no chipped teeth. With all parts installed and torqued down the starter gear free spins counter clockwise and locks up clockwise which from what ive read is how its supposed to work. When i hit the starter button the starter gear spins counter clockwise and the whole system just spins free and does not start the machine. Ive had it apart multiple times now and cannot for the life of me figure it out. I know its near impossible but could the starter be spinning backwards? As its assembled now the starter spins clockwise. Is that the correct way it should spin?? I’ve been through the starter wiring and how i have it wired matches the polaris wiring diagram. Ive done this fix a bunch of times on my Yamaha’s and never had an issue. Im frustrated at this point and i do not want to take it to a dealer for a stupid fix that im overlooking. Anyone have any ideas???
