My question is simple really. I have a 98 Sportsman 500 that is a real chick magnet. The problem, when I start it up it runs perfect for about 10 mins then it chokes and coughs and sounds like its dying. Then it will back fire and make terrrible noises.
If I turn it off and let it get cold it does it all over again.
Some threads on here address the issue but none have the solution.
Interestingly enough I did recently adjust the transmission key tab because she wasn’t going into gear properly due to a crack. I bought a new one and installed it and it ran flawlessly. Then this started. I have heard that its caused by the tranny thinking its in reverse. I have also heard its the dirty carb. I have purchase a new carb kit but have not had the chance to install it.
Any thoughts? The correct answer will win you a naked pic of my dog!
I got a 08 sportsman 500 ho, I have replaced the starter and starter solenoid and it still won’t do anything with the key. I can short across the solenoid and it spins and cranks right up, so my question is would the ignition switch be bad or is there a fuse somewhere for it?

Hey All, so i have a 2015 Outlander 1000XT, which i love. I normally just go riding with me and the guys but sometimes i want to bring my GF as a passenger. There are a lot of options for a rear seat cargo box. I just wanted to get everyone’s feed back on what they use and what they feel works the best.
Please let me know it would be greatly appreciated.
I have a 2009 Sportsman 800 that was recently rolled. The ATV itself is working just fine but we had to replace a few things one of which was the gauge cluster as the old one broke due to the roll.
The ATV had around 2550 miles on it when it was rolled and rather than getting a new cluster for $300 we were able to get a used one off ebay for $130. Everything works again except for the fuel but I think that probably has something to do with the float in the tank rather than what it has to do with the gauge and I will look more into that later.
My main question is the replacement cluster says it has 9438 miles on it and while I do not really care what it says as I nave no intention of selling any time soon, I am wondering if the ECM actually has stored the original miles and if so is it possible to go to a dealer and have them pull a readout of the original miles just so if I ever do sell it I can show what the mileage actually is? If not its not a huge deal. The machine runs fine and I will probably have it for another 5 years anyway. I was just curious.
I picked up my Xmr 1000 yesterday. Holy crap this thing rips. 2008 I bought an 800 outlander max. The motor blew twice, damn bike left me stranded in the bush so I traded it in on a Polaris first chance I got. Even since then Ive wanted a Can am again. When the Xmr 1000 was released I had to have one, it just took me a little while to get one. I ordered a Yoshimural pipe, probably the only mod I’ll get besides a gps. You have a great forum here, I’ve been following it for awhile. Probably what helped push me to go get mine. I’m looking to meet up with people in my area of the woods in Northern Ontario to ride the trails and Hydro lines with.

Got question Have a 93 300 it runs great when cold but it gets extremely hot after about 30 mins of riding. carb is completely rebuilt, new intake manifold, new ngk spark plug and when it gets hot it looses power and starts to spark knock. the only thing has been done about 5 years ago was timing chain replaced. check valve lash and set at .006. any other ideas what would cause this. just started this past year. the heat alarm doesn’t come on unknown if works. get so hot it burns your legs with jeans on Factory exhaust. Is there a way to check timing without pulling the side cover. Also just put a 128 from a 125 main jet and set the needle to the richest. Thank for any help
