Hey PolarisATVForums, I’m Evan from RM Stator!

Hi guys!

I’m excited to be joining the forum, and looking forward to talking with you you guys about electrical stuff, and our products.

I’m Evan, I’m an Electrical Engineer for RM Stator located in Fort Collins, Colorado. I have over 10 years experience in motorcycle electrical systems, including charging, ignition, and lighting. I’ve got years of off-road riding on dirtbikes, dual-sports, quads, and SxS’s. I recently moved here to Colorado from California, where I spent most of my free time in the deserts out east of San Diego. I’m also a big street motorcycle rider, usually averaging almost 15k miles on a motorcycle yearly. If it has an engine, you can assume I’m interested in it.

RM Stator is an industry-leading designer and manufacturer of high quality powersports electrical components, in business for over 25 years. We build stators, voltage regulator rectifiers, MOSFET regulators, ignition coils, keyswitches, wiring harnesses, and more. We’re always interested in developing NEW products, so if you have a great idea, don’t hesitate to share and be involved in the development and testing process.

Anyways, back on topic. I’m certainly here to advertise RM Stator products, since I wholeheartedly believe we have the best quality control, innovative products, and customer support & service in the industry, and I want to share that with people. In our vendor forum here, I’ll be posting about our specific products that are of interest to Suzuki ATV owners, as well as other related things I think might be useful.

I’m a busy guy, with a ton of work to do, but I’m going to do my best to participate in the forum for electrical related discussions, hopefully help you guys to test and troubleshoot electrical problems on your bikes. One thing I’m good at is getting to the bottom of electrical issues, and explaining how things work.

So, let’s get started! Can’t wait to talk with you guys and hopefully meet some of you! Anybody who want’s to go ride in Northern Colorado, don’t hesitate to shoot me a PM!

Sportsman 850 XP

I am shopping around for a new quad and the 2009-2012 sportsman 850’s have my attention, they seem to be a reasonable price and would have the kick I want, also power steering. I want to hear from someone who has one though, do they have any common issues? what is important to pay attention to as far as maintenance? (things other than changing oil) and do you like it? how would it handle having some bigger tires put on it and some mildly aggressive mudding? Also what differences are there through the years of production of the sportsman 850s? I am kind of on the fence about one of them or a kawasaki brute force 750, or possibly a grizzly 700. how would it compare to one of these? I am coming from having a 07 arctic cat 700, its a great quad and I do like it but it lacks the punch of a twin cylinder. I’ve been on quads since ever but I’ve never had a polaris, they seem to have changed their game with their newer machines though.

07 rincon electrical problem

my 07 Rincon was running around the yard and everything was ok when I
parked it. next day turned the key on and no power to the instrument panel.
the batt was dead. I charged it up and still no power when I turn the key on.
the switch is good, I tested the continuity on both contacts. the headlights and taillights work with the key on.
so with the key on no power to the instrument panel or the aux power socket.
all the fusses are good, the diode is good. I can,t find anything on testing the bank angle sensor. anyone experienced this before. I,m stumped. I,m assuming that what caused the batt to go dead is where the problem lies??????
I hope the find the problem with out having to dismantle the whole machine.
anyone with ideas???

12″ Auxbeam

So I purchased a 12 inch auxbeam and on the box it says it has a total of 72 Watt draw or each LED is 3 Watts if I convert this to 12 volts then it’s a 6 amp draw. Is this considered too much for an ATV of any kind?

Quest Electrical

Hello, I have 2002 Quest 650XT and the Inductance Coil 710000317 seems to be bad and I have replaced it. The wire going to the solenoid will start to melt when it is hooked up to solenoid. I have replaced the solenoid but no difference. What is the Inductance coil for? Can I leave it unhooked as it will start without it. Will I cause damage if I run it with out the Inductance Coil? It is part number 53 in the parts diagram.

I have it wired as shown with one lead going to the ground bolt and the other lead going to the solenoid.

Thank you for your help.
