2014 Grizzly opinion

Great forum, my first post. Have ridden ATV’s since the early 80’s. Always was the "need for speed" guy. Fast forward 30+ years.

Needed something to play around on and also use for snow plowing. Found a VERY gently used 2014 550 Grizzly. Has 200 miles and 50 hours. Was owned by an older retired gentleman that decided he just did not use it enough to justify keeping it.

So, without doing much research, I went ahead and bought it. Let me know if I made out ok on the deal:

2014 550 Grizzly, camo edition with power steering. Came with winch and plow. Has 2 up seat with storage added to back rack. Has hand warming electric grips. Only 200 miles on odo. No scratches or wear at all. Paid $5000

Was it a decent deal? Anything to watch out for on this model year?
Thanks for any opinions.

Any way to lighten the EPS on my 2014 Grizzly 550?

I’m not sure why it feels heavy, especially when making hard turns at slow speed, but I know it is working and nothing is obstructing it. The 14′ Grizzly 700 with EPS steers much lighter especially in turns. I heard somewhere that they made an improvement on the power steering unit for the 2014 700, possibly even with a new pitman arm. Is it possible that my 550 doesn’t have the same EPS unit? I really wasn’t impressed at all with the EPS on mine, but my brothers 700 is way better.
It only has 50 miles on it, and i bought it used, so I didn’t know what to expect with an EPS unit. Compared to my Brute Force with no EPS, it doesn’t make me overly excited. Is there something I could do, or should I take it back to the dealer and have it checked or replaced. Some people say you notice the power steering even when it is running in a sitting position, I don’t feel that either.

2015 Polaris sportsman etx engine problems

So in April 2015 me and my wife had purchased some quads. I got the 570 and she got the etx. Since the first time we took it out it’s been nothin but problems. Somehow the engine on the first one blew at 350 miles which happened after like the 3rd time we took it in well since it was covered under warranty Polaris replaced it with a new one. Well the new one had had the same exact problem with 360 miles on it and I have kept up on the maintenance and break in period. These machines are junk. This time out the thing just died and when I opened the air filter it was filled with oil. And now Polaris wants over a grand to fix it since it is out of warranty. Def feel as if their is an issue with this machine and don’t wanna pay to fix it when I owe 6000 on it still. Has anyone else had a problem with the etx

Well….After alot of waiting and research made the move to Can Am

Hi everyone! I was a "Honda Man" for 31 years. Sold my last one a couple years ago, 06 Rincon. I have been waiting for a big bore 4×4 from them with no avail. I did alot of research, asked a lot of questions, did some test driving, and decided on Can Am. I decided on a 2017 XT-P 1000R that I picked up last Saturday. I got to put some scratches on it the next day. I have not been able to rip on her yet but the power it has with the standard key is pretty equal to the Rincon. I really love the Fox shocks so far. I’m not going to mess with the suspension yet until I break her in and get a feel for how the quad handles. I put a alpine composite plow together and mounted it yesterday. That is a pretty nice system. Hopefully it holds up. The dealer said he hasn’t had any problems with them so far. My only grip is the CVT area makes some weird noises. I took it back to the dealer to let them listen to the whining and chirping sounds to see if its normal. They said yep, it will wear in…..OK. I looked at some you tube videos of Can Ams making the same sounds. Some of them were from 2012 so I guess I have to get used to it and hopefully it quiets down some. Other than that I am pretty impressed so far. It has a lot of grease zerks, easy air cleaner maintenance access, and looks to have good access to all the general maintenance areas. I have about 5 more hours of "standard key" and its go time!!

2003 TRX400FW neutral/reverse switch(es?)

Two events happened simultaneously that seem too strange to be coincidental. I parked my ATV in the garage, and it would not go into neutral while the engine was running. So I shut it off, and since then five men have tried to rock it back and forth to get it into neutral. No luck.

Now I have no spark at the spark plug. Why would both things go wrong at once? Shouldn’t it pull-start when in gear? I have a spark plug tester kit; it indicates no spark.

The service manual indicates a neutral/reverse switch inside the alternator cover on page 10-6. Looks very hard to get at and requires special tools to do so.

There is a schematic diagram on page 19-0 that makes it appear that if the "neutral switch" is open, there may be no spark–though I am not clear about that.

Any suggestions? If I could just get the sucker into neutral, maybe all would be well. But why no spark? I am mystified. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

BTW, I have used two coils and two ignition control modules (that have worked before); they did not fix the problem. But one of the 15 amp fuses was blown. Why?

Spearhead Trails

Anyone here from VA or been to VA to ride the Spearhead trails? Looks like we are going down there this next April and trying to get a little insight to them. We rode Hatfield McCoy last spring and Ride Royal Blue and Windrock the spring before.

How does Spearhead compare to any of those?

Thanks
