98 Sportsman 500 starting issue

Recently I was suckered into replacing the motor on this 500 due to the fact the previous one burned up because of the oils screen was plugged up. Anyway my buddy bought a used motor and the seller installed a new can once the motor was out of the quad. So the motor arrived at my home and like a good buddy I double checked the can installation. All appeared fine with the exception the timing was way off.

I also checked the valves and set them to .006 (lobes down dots up)the engine will start and it sounds good when I can get it to roll over that is. Using the pull rope it is very difficult to pull and the starter drags as in it doesn’t seem to have the torque required to turn this motor. With the clutch cover off at times its very hard for me to rotate the engine by hand.

I am assuming that the decompression valve may be the culprit however I don’t see anything wrong with it. I pulled it apart and it all appears fine. The ball bearing is in place and so is the mechanism.

Keep in mind that it sounds great when it fires up but I am at a loss as to what to look at next

hpg rear shocks stiffness

so i got hpg shocks for my xmr and getting rid of the air system, got the hpg shocks installed, and to my surprise from what i read, the front seems really good, pretty happy with the way the front turned out, stiff enough. (i like it stiff don’t like sinking in when accel or brake. but the rear, the rear shocks were noticeably shorter than stock air shocks, front where actually really close to the same length, so back to the rear, little shorter i can live with, but I’m 250lbs and 140 lbs gf like riding once in awhile to, but just with me on it alone it squats to much for my liking, do they make an hd spring for the rear. should i be able to put a pipe spacer in the shock to stiffen it up?

Transmission problems?

Hello, I’ve been having problems with my 97/98 Sportsman 335, it slips out of gear after I am up to 10-15mph, but prior to that, I parked it for the winter because it would not go after 5mph, it will now go right off the start, but seems to slip out of gear after a certain speed. Any ideas before I spend a ton for a bunch of stuff that doesn’t need to be replaced? Thanks guys!

05 Phoenix is dead

Ran great last season. Parked it and now it is dead. Battery has been maintained as well as a brand new battery tried. The neutral and when in reverse lights on the dash will light up. They will dim when I hit the starter button and that is it. No click or noise from the starter. Any ideas where I should look.
