Renegade 1000 weight reduction

Just thinking this machine weights up around 700 pounds… Is there anything that could be removed or simplified to shave a few pounds?

A couple ideas I had: Remove the extra plastic shield on the left side, and paint the exhaust heat shield VHT flat black. Also remove the dual taillights, and make a bracket across behind the muffler for a single taillight.

Also thought about removing the plastic shields up under the front fenders. But concerned they may shield sensitive parts though.

Whatever I do, I want it to look good, and not hacked up…

Any ideas or pictures?

2013 400x Throttle Stop Screw

I accidentally backed out this screw from the botom of the carb bowl. Its attached to a small cable and I cant seem to get it to catch when trying to put it back in, due to the cramped space and location.
Should I need to remove the carb in order to get it back in and if so, what typically is necessary to remove when taking the carb off?

2004 Sportsman 400 Brakes

Hey guys,

Have a sportsman 400. 2004. want your opinion

How good should the rear brake be?

I know the little pedal on the right foot, just activates the right rear brake. Should it be strong enough to stop the bike? to hold it on a hill? or is it just meant to be an assist.

I have never been comfortable with it and want to try to adjust it – if I need to

love to hear from other similar bike owners on this.thanks

new rubber

Hi Guys,

Have a 2004 polaris Sportsman 400. Original tires. I really just use the bike for light messing around.. little bit of hunting and to plow a 70-80 ft driveway on a medium hill for NY winters.

What tire would you guys recommend. about 70% plowing / 30% woods

I am not interested in buying new wheels – but I would go with a larger tire that would raise me a little if I could – is this an option?

cheers guys
