need help on atc 200es purchase

This is not my first atv, although it would be my first one with 3 wheels. I found what I believe is a 200es. The guy selling it says he knows nothing about it other than it doesn’t run, has 3 flat tires, and has been sitting quite a while. He says it’s an 83 but doesn’t know the model here is a pic on the craigslist posting.

From this picture it doesn’t look too bad. He sent me a few other pictures. The plastic on the other is is trashed. The front fork looks like it’s in bad shape too. The right leg still has the boot, but the left side looks like it coming apart and is all rusty. The front fender is missing too.

This is one of the most troubling parts. This bend in the front down tube. Is this a factory bend that is supposed to be here, or aftermarket from a crash or something?

This is what makes me think it’s an es. That is a starter on the front below the cylinder head, which makes it an es, Correct?

If the frame is bent I don’t want anything to do with it. My guess is that a bent frame is something that isn’t really repairable. He was asking $800 to begin with. I told him pretty much what he had, it isn’t worth anywhere near that, and offered him $100. He came back and said he didn’t want to take less than $150. I guess my question is, would it be worth it to buy as a project to get running again, or is it too far gone? It is about 2.5 hours away so I can’t really make a trip just to look at it unless I’m going to commit to purchase, so I’m just going by the pics and what he is telling me. There are a lot of unknowns, the big one being if the engine is any good. There are also a lot of parts that need to be replaced. i could see potentially putting 2-3 times in it than it’s worth just to get it going and depending on how far i wanted to take it. Seems like it might only be good for parts (whatever few parts are still good), and not as a starting point to restore. Just wondering what the experts opinions where. Is $150 ok, should I stick with $100, or just leave this one alone? I figure even at $150 I could probably make my money back, and perhaps a little profit parting out what is good on it. I don’t know what the demand for these is though. Thanks for any input.

Buying For Memorial Day Weekend **HELP NEEDED**

Hello all,

Was just wondering if I could get some input from the experts. I have ridden a Honda my entire life (Trx90,Trx250, Trx400ex, Trx450r). Trails/Track wherever sounds fun at the time. I have since sold my TRX450r about 4-5 years ago. Had college bills etc. Now after buying my new house, I would really like to have one again. I have been perusing through your forums and reading about how much everyone loves these quads (But this is a Honda forum, I wouldn’t expect any less). I was just wondering if someone could give me some insight. I am looking at either a 2009 450xc or 2005 450r. I will only be trail riding/riding on my property. No racing, yet. Pulling towards the KTM as I want to try something new and it has low hours. Hesitant because I don’t know how available parts are, or how they hold up against a 450r.

2005 Honda TRX 450r
– This will be only $1000 cheaper
– Has high compression piston, nerfs, pro taper bars, white bros exhaust, k&n, bead lock rims/new tires, widened 1in Front/ 2in Back
-Claims it has never been raced (Has Numbers On It)

2009 KTM 450xc
Low Hours (Under 20 claiming) Little to no wear. No aftermarket parts besides nerfs/slip on FMF pipe (Was told was offered by KTM)

So after this has been said, which would you chose. I need something before this weekend. Just looking for insight.

Sportsman ETX 30hp

Hello everyone, was thinking of pulling the trigger on a 2015 Sportsman ETX 30hp. I know lots will think of it as underpowered and not big enough, but the price of this thing makes it a winner in my book, However it’s really all i need. I currently ride a prairie 300 and it goes everywhere my friends 500 and 750s go. especially being standard with Indepedendent Rear, liquid cool, EFI, etc..it’s really hard to beat, Basically plan on using it to ride some trails in Busco, NC and some riding in Hatfield Mccoys. Thoughts on this Atv? thanks in advance for any info.

Used Sportsman 570SP vs New 570

I wasn’t really sure where the best place to post this is, so I figured this might be the best section.

I currently own a Sportsman 570 EFI and love it (have had it for about 1 1/2 years). I am planning to buy another ATV so that my sons can join us on the trails. They are 15 and 18 and have no riding experience. I want to get something that they can grow into, but I also don’t want to go overboard.

Because the used market here in Michigan is way overpriced (many 5 year old machines above new retail), I started looking at a new Sportsman EXT or another 570 EFI. While shopping, I came across a used 2015 570 SP with 18 hours and 125 miles on it for $6500 and a small amount of the warranty left. The new 570 I’m looking at is $5800 with all fees. I’m wondering if I should spend the extra $700 and get the SP and let my sons use the old 570.

What is everyone’s thoughts? Am I better off keeping what I have and just getting them an EXT for $5000? Should I avoid used regardless of cost? Can’t decide which direction to go. Any advice would be appreciated.

Need Help pricing my Old 4 wheelers

This is my first post here but I would like to get some advise. I have a 1989 Honda 300 fourtrax. It needs a carb or carb rebuild, coil and a battery. It has new tires but is not currently running. I also have a 1987 Honda 250 fourtrax that is running( can pull start) just needs a battery. We just recently replaced the carb. I would like to sale these to purchase a newer one. Can anyway guide me in the right direction with pricing to help get these sold. Also would you recommend getting the 300 running before I try to sale.

Thank y’all for your help!

I should have pictures in the next couple of days of the 4 wheelers if that will help.

Picking up new rides Friday!!!

I haven’t added many posts on the forum, but I have definitely spent a lot of time over the past month reading posts and gathering info from many knowledgable and experienced forum users. Me and the missus finally pulled the trigger to sell a small lot of land and the deal closed today. After paying off a couple of credit cards, we had enough to finally make the deal! 🙂

At the end of the day, I decided to pick up a 2015 TRX420 DPS, IRS & EPS for my teenage son and a new 2015 Rubicon 500 Deluxe (Black) DPS, IRS & EPS for myself.

We added in a Honda Warn winch for both and swapped out the stock tires on both for AMS Slingshots for the stock rims. We don’t have a big selection of tires here locally and we both liked the look and reviews for the tire.

It’s the May 24 weekend (official beginning of summer here in Newfoundland) and all ATV/RV shops are swamped so we don’t get the winch and tires installed until next week, but having the bikes for the extended weekend will be a good bit of fun.

Thanks to all postors for a great site and I’m sure I’ll have even more questions over the coming months!

1999 scrambler help

Local deal for a 99 Polaris scrambler 400 for $400 I am considering. It says quad ran great but now has crack or nickel size hole in right case under carb. Is this that big of a deal? Repair costs? Are these good reliable quads, are they auto and 4×4? Any help is great
