Front end work on 2014 sportsman 400 HO

I broke a front coil spring. I also noticed some play in the bearing and the a-arm bushings so I’m rebuilding the whole side. I’m stuck on separating the a-arm from the strut. It doesn’t seem to want to let go. Is there a trick? I beat on it with a mallet but didn’t want to go with anything heavier since the bolt on the bottom of the strut is actually a ball joint.

It all looks real clean, no rust. I can’t figure out why it won’t come off unless it’s threaded on there or something silly I’m missing…. From what I can see from the diagrams it should slide right off there once the nut and cotter pin are out of the way.

Any advice?

Thanks.

6×6 Tire Selection (high alpine)

Hi All,

Glad to join this forum. Looking seriously at a 2017 Outlander 6×6 1000XT for backcountry travel on jeep roads & mining roads high in the Southern Colorado mountains. We don’t have much mud, we have rocks, scree fields, gravel and dirt & stone road cuts. So far, I see lots of focus on mud tires, and swamp/wet travel.

Curious what tire/wheel combinations work well for these high alpine, hard/dry conditions??

Thanks in Advance!

2012 Sportsman 500 H.O Tires and wheels

I own a 2012 Polaris Sportsman 500 H.O. I didn’t check the bike itself, it’s @ my hunting camp. My owners manual says it has front tires sized , 25×8-12 and rear 25×10-12 the LE has 25×11-12.

I assume my back tire is 25×10-12.

Anyway, i’m wanting to put a new set of skins on it. The Carlisle’s are great, never left me stuck, but they have about 2,000 miles on them now and are what 4 years old ?

So I decided to go with Mud Lite tires. My question is, can I use a 26 tire front and back. i’m told going 2 inches to a 27 will under power the bike and strain axles.

Do I or should I go bigger to a 26 and if so, what inner numbers ?

I’m showing on a tire wholesaler a size of 26×10-12 and 26×12-12 ? Which kinda troubles me as to how they would fit on the bike ?

I’m sure someone of ya’ll have upgraded your rims and tires, can anyone offer me any advice ? Bolt patterns etc.

Thanks ahead of time !

Mike

What do you think of your Kodiak

Now that is a stupid question cause I can tell you all love your rides, but what do you really think?
I am in a dirt bike club and was looking for a biggish quad to help with marking out tracks for events, it had to have racks for carrying stakes, arrows and such. I didn’t have a particular model in mind. I didn’t think I wanted a 4WD and looked at lots of other 2WD quads, this 2002 Kodiak Ultramatic came up real cheap, but needed some loving care and work (hence it was cheap), so I bought it on a whim. My theory was that I could sell it if it didn’t suit my needs.
Well I can tell you I am never selling this baby (well maybe trade up to an IRS model), I have been on a couple of big rides since the rebuild and it is fantastic, I can not believe the hills this thing will climb, a week in our Flinders Ranges (like the Rockies but a tenth the size) and just recently a weekend in a local forest marking out an event, it does everything I want it to do. The front drive shaft spline was chewed out so I haven’t got 4WD on her yet, which is why I was stuck in the mud hole, my order is of to Partzilla soon, and I have been having this much fun in 2WD I can’t wait till it is 4WD, it will be damn near unstoppable! The 2nd photo doesn’t do hill justice, it was real steep and slippery, Kodiak just stormed up there, the mud hole looks easy but I slipped into a 4WD vehicle trench and it was very soft mud, I had to be towed out, might have to get a winch as well.
