Battery Charger?

Hi all,

I have a 2015 Sportsman touring that just had its first service.
During that service, I had the store add some LED lights (2 on the front at 3600 lumens each (48 W a piece) and on the back a smaller 1600 Lumen, 24 W light.
I also have a plow which i’ll start using once the snow flies (obviously 😉

In all your experiences, do you think i need a battery charger?
I’ll probably be plowing a few times a week (30 – 45 minutes each time) and using the front lights mostly. Doubt i’ll need the front stock lights to be honest.

any suggestions?

260mm big brake rotor kit Maverick and Commander

This kit well take your stock brakes from 220mm to 260mm. That is an 18% increase in leverage the rotor has on the wheel. This kit makes a huge difference in braking power. A must have for people who ride fast, have bigger tires, or carry passengers. Our Maverick max turbo went from -.68g in a controlled stop to just over -.9g. All parts are machined out of steel, the rotors are surface ground, and all parts are zinc coated. These well last a long time and well look good for the life of the machine. Replacement rotors are available in the event you are able to wear them out.

This kit fits 2014 Commander 1000 dps, xt, 2015 Commander limited and dps,xt, 2016-up all Commander, 2014 Maverick xmr, Maverick max, 2015 Maverick xmr, all turbo, all max, 2016-up all Maverick. This kit sells for $349.99 plus $15 shipping. PM me or check our website at UTV HardwareUTV Hardware makes parts to make your UTV perform better. At this time we are focused on big brake rotor kits for Can Am Maverick and Commander.. Thanks

Outlander 500 XT or 800 XT?

New to modern ATVs, and I am planning to buy an Outlander to ride trails and open fields with my teenage son, who has a 2008 Renegade 500. I also plan to add a plow and move snow. I’ve narrowed it down to two 2013 machines:

500 XT with 700 miles
800 XT with 2,100 miles

Overall condition between the two seems to be close, with a very slight edge going to the 800.

The 800 is approx. $700 more than the 500.

Am I crazy to not buy the 800? I’m thinking about power for my use and ease of resale (thinking that 3, 4, 5 years from now, it should be easier to sell the 800, although I have no empirical evidence to back that up).

That said, $700 is $700, and I could use that saved money to buy a plow and other accessories. For my use, is the 800 overkill? I mean, more power is almost always better (or, maybe just always better), but I don’t see me wanting to go 60 or 70 mph, and I suppose it’s theoretically possible to have "too much" machine.

For the record, I’ve ridden my son’s Renegade on a very limited basis, and it has not felt slow or underpowered. However, I’m afraid my opinion could change over time, as I become more and more used to riding. And, again, I’m thinking about desirability when it’s time to sell.

Would really appreciate any and all thoughts/advice! Thanks!

BRP 650 Traxter Start Problems

I have a 2005 Traxter 650, and for the first time ever, I am having starting problems, and was wondering where to start trouble shooting.

Lights work (on key switch), battery is fully charged and functional, battery terminals are clean and corrosion free, winch works, and all other electrical works just fine.

Machine has set for about 3 months on a trickle battery charger. Went out to start it 4 days ago and all I get when I push the start button is a CLICK. Multiple pushes of the start switch (sometimes as many as 20 and as few as 2) will eventually get the starter to engage.

Yesterday it started on the first push of the start button, but today it took 3-5 pushes of the start switch to engage the starter. This happened with 6 starts today.

I am assuming the CLICK I hear is the solenoid, and it appears the juice never makes it to the starter….starter does not whine or make any noise at all. When it does start the starter appears to function properly.

Is it possible the solenoid is bad and not making the electrical contact……I’m not sure this machine has a separate solenoid? Could it be a bad, loose, or corroded connection at the solenoid or starter? Is there a separate solenoid or is it a part of the starter?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Clicking sound when key turned on

Hello everyone, I could use some advice.

My 2014 Rancher 420 has been acting up this last week. About 4 days ago i noticed that when the steering is at full lock to the left there is a clicking that i can hear and feel that corresponds with the wheel rotation. I checked the cv boots and they are good but I suspected it was a cv joint and I would fix it when I can. Yesterday the thought crossed my mind for some reason to try 2wd, and discovered that the clicking only happens in 4wd.

Today things got a little worse. When riding back at the end of the day I went down a small hill at very slow speed in 1’st and the quad made a bit of a whirling sound. It made the same sound again in the next 4km but i couldn’t really replicate it by engine braking. When we got back to the truck it was idling for a few minutes and the red temperature light to the right of the screen was on and the temp icon as well. I turned it off and now there is a sort of clicking sound for a few seconds when you turn the key on before starting. It does this every time in, 2wd and 4wd.

So I’m not really sure what the problem is. It seems like this new sound in coming from the front diff, definitely the front side of the quad. It was pretty dark but will check the oil tomorrow. I have 4 or 5 more days of work here and will be riding ~20km per day and I’ll keep it in 2wd when I can.

Does anyone have any ideas or things I can do to keep the quad going for a few days. It still rides fine, but I dont want to grenade anything before I can get it back home. I should add that the week before this all happened was -7c and the quads were very iced up. Ice would prevent full steering at first. We cleaned them as best as we could but driving in muskeg made that a loosing battle.

Thanks a lot.

2002 Sportsman HO taillight issue

Hi guys, I’m new to this forum. I must say that this forum has helped me alot in the past and I’m excited to finally be a part of it. Anyways, I purchased a 2002 Sportsman HO with only 230 miles and 35 hours (I know low right?) very clean machine and came with pretty much everything but a plow. Came with a winch, bumpers, etc. I noticed that when I start the ATV the taillight is on which I know is normal, but doesn’t light up brighter when I hit the brakes (hand lever). It simply doesn’t illuminate and it may even look like the brakelight is stuck on? Any help is appreciated, thanks!
