Hello everyone. I have been working on a 2006 Sportsman 450 and every search I did leads me to this forum. I figured you folks know what you’re talking about so I decided to join. I’m having some issues so please look in the technical section and read what I’m going through. I’m looking forward to learning from everyone so I don’t have to pay that crook up the road.:rippedhand:
Greetings Honda Owners! Today I was given a 2003 Honda Recon ES TRX250TM which has not been started in five years. The owner was not even sure it will start, but it is now mine, so I plan on getting it running.
I have a little small engine experience, but none of it on ATV. Below are the thoughts I had on the place to begin:
Replace the Battery
Change the fluids (brake, oil, etc.)
Check and possibly replace the brakes
Is there an specific plan that I should follow? Any suggestions on where to begin?
Also, are there any repair manuals to provide assistance?
First question is the air flow from the fan. Should it blow on the radiator or pull air from it?
Someone installed a switch to turn the fan on. The fan never turns on by it self.
When its on it blows air into the back of the radiator. The opposite direction air would naturally flow when driving. This don’t make sense to me and I have overheating issues.
Today I switched wires around for the fan and its seems to work MUCH better but I ran into a new problem on my test drive. It would not startup after I stalled it out. It would just click like the battery was dead.. but fan was running strong.
After I got pulled out the wood I put it on the charger but it showed fully charged.
I taped on the starter and sparks jumped from it to the engine and it would then try to spin slow..
I took the starter off and held it to the engine for ground and it spins fast. But after cleaning grounds and reinstall it will only click.
Do I need a new starter? Is there a engine to frame ground wire I can try to clean?
Also there is oil leaking down from were the starter slides into the engine. The O-ring looks way to small… like 1/2 the thickness of the grove it sits in. Could oil get into the starter and cause my problem?
I got a 16 Honda rancher IRS with 27in Kenda Executioners. I’m thinking of a clutch kit for it cause when I drop off in some deep sticky mud it won’t hardly turn em. I can’t hardly tell a difference riding the trail tho. Anybody got any experience with clutch kits on a 2016

Today I was changing all the fluids and changed the engine the diffs and everything looked good but when I drained the transmission the drain plug had a 1" slim of piece of metal on it and has anyone seen this before it just don’t seem normal even during the break in to have a piece like that
