Hello from Minnesota

I’ve been riding ATV’s for quite some time. My wife and I have had several Polaris, Honda and Suzuki quads. Also, one Yamaha, a Raptor 50 the grand-kids loved. We’re both ATV safety instructors and Minnesota Trail ambassadors. We enjoy camping and riding all around our state, we’ve also made numerous trips to ride the Montana mountains and the Ozark National Forest.

I recently decided to replace my 2013 Sportsman 850 with a new Blue 2017 Grizzly EPS. Hopefully, the new ride will arrive in the next 30 days.

2000 Polaris xpedition 425 **help**

So I have recently bought a Polaris xpedition 425 not running and looks like it hasn’t in quite a while. Recoil was broke and the previous only just put in a new battery and had absolutely no power to the dash starter, nothing no clicking when pressing the start button or anything. First think I did was clean the carb and take the recoil off. I then checked for spark with the key on using a 1/2 hp drill on the flywheel. Had spark so I put the boot in the plug and it did start. Now as for the electric end I checked all the grounds and checked both circuit breakers, all is good. Checked power coming out of the ignition switch and is also good. Tried to jump start the starter solenoid and nothing….. Pretty stumped!!! PLEASE HELP!

Help identify this part…that is leaking oil

Hi everyone,

So long story short, I was trying to "burp" my rad because I thought there to be an air lock in the system as I was having the HI TEMP warning after about 2-3 mins of running my ’11 800 just sitting at idle. Idle was perfectly fine, no hesitation that I could notice as well…

Anyways, while doing this I noticed a bunch of oil behind the block…It turns out this one "screw type" fitting was leaking engine oil. I tried tightening it – i think more than one full turn as well with a 15mm wrench, started the bike up and it was still leaking. I’ve tried this twice so far and its still leaking, so I’m thinking maybe it’s cracked…Furthermore, I checked the engine oil and it was well below the LOW level on the dip stick…SO maybe the hi temp was coming on due to low engine oil?? Not sure at this point until I can stop the leak.

Anyhow, here are the pictures I need help identifying the part I’m talking about.

Thanks in advance!

New guy here

hello everyone. Name is shane, from just north of the twin cities, mn. Just picked up a new 2016 sportsman 570 almost two weeks ago. Put about 70 miles on last weekend and had an awesome time. Ive been on this forum a little bit here and there and decided to finally register. Only extras on the wheeler so far are powermadd handguards, which were a little bit of a pain to install but i like them so far. Only complaint is the very limited options you have on the left side with the brake. Lever is a little higher than i would like it. Hope to get a super winch terra 35 in the near future. Otherwise no big plans right away. Love all the info and pictures on this forum. Look forward to being a part of it.

2016 sportsman touring

I just purchased a 2016 Sportsman touring sp, and I was wondering if anyone else has had the rear tires rub on the fender when riding with a passenger? There seems to be a bracket that catches on the lugs on corners as well as when driving . Is this a known problem and if so is there a fix?

2015 SPORTSMAN® TOURING 570 SP BLUE FIRE – issues

Hello users!

So I went out and bought myself a 2015 sportsman 570 sp touring model the blue fire one. Had 38 KM on it when I drove it off the lot at the dealer.

For the most part it’s been a pretty great machine but I’ve come into some fairly serious issues that I wanted to discuss and share. It now has 1187 KM and 54 hr’s of use after 3 weeks of ownership, Man I love riding!

Please let me know if you’ve had a similar issue and what you’ve done to fix it.

1) HEAT!!!!! , There is a ridiculous amount of heat coming into the right foot well. So much in fact that all the hair on my inside shin is melted off and the ankle wrap of my boot is melted also. Is this normal? like this cannot be safe….

2) MORE HEAT!!!!! , My seat seems to have melted on the right 2 rear seat bumpers. From what I can tell when properly seated, these bumpers are sitting directly on top of the muffler heat shield. Who thought that up? Of course its going to melt if it’s not ceramic or something. Anyways now it has slipped to the right side and sits more diagonally. allowing the seat itself to rub on the side panelling and taking off that nice paint finish. Furthermore now that it’s sagged so much it’s rubbing the breather box arm and scouring that all up. (the dealer has my machine right now, this better be a warranty fix or….)

3) PVT Sealing, Finally had some riding partners for my last ride and grew a pair of balls. Unfortunately that meant i had to endure the embarrassment of having to push my bike through the water as the PVT got soaked and lost all power right in the middle. (the depth was just above the footwells but below the passenger pegs). I know the owners manual says not to go above the footwells. But really? Drying it out however was a piece of cake. I was up and running within 10 minutes. but it was such a shame I had to do that in the first place. After visual inspection of the PVT (while pulling the drain plug) I noticed that the front cap for the PVT was not even flush with the back cap and there was clearly no seal here. (Again fingers X’d this should be warranty stuff).

4) Front tire beads. Now I ride pretty hard. I like to go fast, but i already know what I can handle as far as cornering, climbs etc. However running a trail with 4 others and just keeping up to their pace. 35-50k down the trail and slowing at rough spots, I blew the front tire beads on both sides while going over some roots, about 2 inches or so high. These where not huge at all…maybe similar to driving over a small stone on the road. Anyway bead blows, insta flat tire. (thank god i was riding with a canam partner who had air ride) We pump it up, then 20 minutes later the other bead goes. They held air fine afterwards, but really? Everything on my machine is stock and the dealer told me pretty much any modification voids my warranty. I cant use any bead sealer and apparently these tires have no bead locks. Am i forced to just baby it? why is this happening? ( dealer already told me def not a warranty cover. "Rider error")

5) HEAT!!!!!!!!! This time inside my gas tank. this puppy starts to burn to the touch and when you stop to re-fuel you almost die from a geyser of death fumes. This thing is like a pressurised gas bomb. I’m just waiting for it to explode in my face, then touch the glowing hot exhaust and boom. After inspection I noticed there is quite a lot of heat shielding under the tank so it shouldn’t be heat transfer. Dealer told me maybe a plugged breather line with mud.

6) Steering column starts to bind and squeak like crazy after longer rides, eventually gets harder to move around too. Maybe because this pressurised gas tank bomb is burning out the bushing?

7) A few random stalls. over the 1000KM put on it just randomly stalled 3 times. no key turning, no killswitch. Driving along the trail no issue then dead. No clue what would cause this. I’ll let you know what the dealer says.

8) Transmission clacking? I’m not a mechanic but this doesn’t seem right to me. whenever the engine break is engaged (no throttle) and then i hit the throttle, it seems the clutch is messed up and clack’s every time. during times of throttle feather in rough trail it sounds like I’m a popular breakfast cereal going down the trail. "Snap, Crackle, Pop, Clack, Clack,Clack" Is this normal? Is this just the way PVT’s sound? My dealer was sceptical that i was having this issue. "Maybe your just new to Polaris machines" Idk, when reverse takes 5 seconds + to engage and cant unless you apply the throttle and get a huge ka-chunk and forward gears clackity clack clack down the trail anytime you release the throttle. IDK man, I must be new =/.

Other than that I have just minor maintenance issues, and i think the belt might be glazed a bit from the water stuff, as i feel a bit of power loss and get up and go is delayed now. But we shall see what the dealer says!

I brought it in earlier today and the service guy really made me get the feeling that nothing would be covered. Mentioned the pvt miss mount "Oh must have hit something" , Tire beads "driver error" , PVT water "swamped the machine", Melted seat "too much mud caked on innards causing to overheat" Gas tank issue "mud plugging breather". He pretty much seemed dead set I abused the machine, which no…. not even close…..

However I called back a couple hours later and spoke with the sales rep who sold it to me and he was like "Yeah the 2015 models have a known issue with heat transfer to the seat, and they remedied it in the 2016 model. I’ll talk with the service guy and see if he can order a 2016 seat for you." It was like night and day. Made me feel a bit better than the service guy haha! That being said why are people selling bikes with seats they know are going to melt.

Anyways I will get back to all of you on what the dealer does for repairs, warranty etc. and in the meantime any information or issues you might have experienced with the same model would be greatly appreciated.

Monster Performance Elka shock service and revalve review

Just wanted to do a quick review on the shock service and revalve that I just had done by Ian at Monster Performance. Little back story, I’ve had these shocks installed on my machine since new, at the time I sent them in for service they had exactly 4050km’s on them, these were all aggressive miles and I was always happy with how well they worked and how they came set up from factory, I will make it clear I had no huge complaints with how they worked other than my front shocks were starting to get a little soft, and were always a touch softer than the rear seemed. They were showing signs of fatigue and both my front shock seals were starting to seep, they were long over due for service so I started looking at what my options were. Through my research Monster Performance came up with good reviews, he also ships a ton of shocks to Canada and offers a very fast turn around time, all things I was looking for, so I shot Ian an email with a couple of questions and ultimately decided to send my shocks to him, mainly because of his vast experience with Elka shocks and valving on ATV’s, a lot of companies can revalve Elkas but their experience is in the race world, and I didn’t want to chance getting my shocks back super stiff. I decided on getting my shocks revalved along with the service as I was interested in seeing if they could be made even better than they were originally, and off they went. I got them back in approx. 10 business days, Ian said he had completely changed the valving to meet my needs, and I had a chance to get out and ride and tune them today. He had left my rebound set where it was before and I set my compression clickers to the middle of the adjustment range and went at it, even within the first few miles I knew that my shocks had greatly improved. Spent about 5-6 hours riding and adjusting at the stops today and got them dialed in pretty close to perfect, its unbelievable how smooth they are now, even at low speeds, and the handling has also improved, very responsive and predictable in the turns. All in all I am very pleased with the outcome, and I will say I’m pretty hard to impress, I wont go as far as to say it was a night and day difference, but they have markedly improved. Ian has very fair rates and his service is top notch, I would highly recommend him to anybody out there with shocks in need of service, especially if your looking for a custom revavle.
