AMAZING! Mancos Colorado…

Hello friends. I recently had the opportunity to stay the weekend at a friend’s family ranch/cabin just outside of Mancos Colorado. While there we did a gorgeous trail ride up to Mt Hesperus. To get there we took a myriad of trails and county roads. I did some research to see what we could legally ride and I found an official government document stating that as of recently all county roads in Montezuma county Colorado are open to OHVs. There is a LOT of amazing riding to do up there! One must be 16 or older, have a drivers license, and have the OHV registered either in-state or out-of-state CO OHV permit to operate on the county roads, but that permit is only $25. There are so many opportunities to ride up there, tons of marked trails, and wildlife galore. The government doc stated that the county is actively trying to promote OHV usage in the area to draw in revenue. I highly recommend it! Here is a video of part of our ride:

I will be posting more videos of the ride promptly.

2016 Rancher 420 vs Warrior 350 – drag race

Hey friends. I have a neighbor kid with a Yamaha Warrior 350, and I of course have a new 2016 Honda Rancher 420 4×4 DCT EPS. He and his buddies invite me along to ride from time to time, and he loves to "challenge" me on the Rancher in different ways. So far I’ve bested him at every challenge (could be rider more than machine) but we’re just having a good time. We done a number of drag type races and I’ve noticed the two machines run pretty close, neck-and-neck. On general acceleration it seems they’re evenly matched, but the Warrior obviously has a higher top speed (six gears, sport quad gearing) so if the stretch is shorter I generally win the race, and if it’s longer he’ll pull ahead at the end. Here is a video of some racing from last night:

Sycamore Creek OHV area with the 2016 Rancher 420 4×4 DCT EPS

Howdy friends. For those of you within range of the greater Phoenix AZ area, Sycamore Creek has tons of awesome trails and beautiful desert exploration opportunities. Here is a video of some of the highlights, specifically 4×4 technical stuff in that area from a ride I did in Jan, 2016. The Rancher was fantastic on this ride, and I can’t wait to go back. Don’t be fooled by the video, the uphills and downhills are steeper and "sketchier" than they look on the video.

2017 Rancher 420 model listed…fewer options

Hey guys. I noticed today that the 2017 Rancher 420 is now listed on Honda’s website, and they chose to lessen the number of model configurations available. I don’t blame them, you could really diversify your Rancher through 2016. But, I’m disappointed they’ve eliminated the VERY MODEL I am saving up to buy, which is the Rancher 420 4×4 manual trans with power steering. No longer available for 2017. Which means I need to increase my saving and grab a 2016 before they’re all gone.

Riding to the Copper Creek mine ruins in AZ on our Hondas…

Hello friends,

Yesterday me and my buddy from Tucson we on an awesome 30-mile ride through the mine ruins at Copper Creek, Arizona. Some of the ruins can be seen in the video footage. I was on my new 2016 Honda Rancher 420 4×4 DCT EPS, 300 miles on odometer. He was on his 1997 Honda Foreman 400 4×4 with 13,600+ miles on the ODO. Here is a link to the video.

Douglas 10″ rims on ’16 Rancher?

Hello ya’ll…

I want to mount 10" diameter (10×8) Douglas aluminum black label rims on my 2016 Honda Rancher. I understand that the bolt pattern is the same as a Honda 400ex, so the same Douglas 10×8 black label rims should mount up to the Rancher, unless the drum brake doesn’t clear.

When I look at my current stock setup, I see that my 11" stock steel Honda Rancher rims have a decent amount of clearance between the rim and the drum brake housing.

I know you’ll all be thinking about things like offset, and outside diameter if mine is a 4×4, etc.

I don’t see any problems there because I plan to run 24" diameter tires on the Douglas rims, and the offset will be to the outside, so I don’t see a problem there either where I’ll be running in sand dunes.

Does anyone know if these 10" Douglas rims will mount up and clear the drum?

Thanks.
