impressed off-road with ’03 Foreman 400

Yesterday my friend and I went on a fun 57-mile ride into/through/around the Santa Rita mountains of southern Arizona, east of Sahuarita. We saw old cars, lots of whitetail deer, few people, and some great vistas.

I rode my 2016 Rancher 4×4, and he rode his 2003 Foreman 400 4×4. He’s a big dude, but that Foreman got him in and out and everywhere we wanted to go – it’s like a little mountain goat! It may not have the cc’s, fuel injection, horsepower, liquid cooling, power steering, suspension, or clearance of my 2016 Rancher 4×4, but but we had an awesome day. He just sold a ’97 Foreman 400 nearly identical to this 2003, and his ’97 had over 3600 hours on it. So this one is a baby with just 360 hours on it. Here’s a short clip of the ’03 in action:

Highlights video from 30-mile loop on ’16 Rancher

Howdy friends,

Yesterday I got out and had a blast on a 30-mile loop ride I did on my 2016 Honda Rancher. I really condensed down the 2 hours worth of footage to just the highlights to give a good idea of the ride. Includes highway cruising, back roads, rough trails, bones, junk, a transfer station, a sheriff, etc. I love my Honda Rancher!

400EX vs Raptor 700R power comparison VIDEO

Howdy friends,

This video is not pushing any agenda, it’s just a video experiment I did on a ride two weeks ago. I rode a 2007 Honda 400EX up a hill, then rode a Raptor 700R up the same hill, and took a video. For comparison sake, both quads were using the exact same 20" ITP Sand Star paddle tires on Douglas aluminum rims.

2007 Honda 400EX with K&N lid, K&N filter, pre-filter, Pro Circuit pipe, and professional jetting to this elevation (5000 ft).

2013 Yamaha Raptor 700R Special Edition, all stock.

I am the rider, 160 lbs.

The 400EX starts out in 4th, then drops to 3rd, then 2nd gear to get up.

The 700R starts out in 3rd (same speed as 400EX in 4th), and stays in 3rd…

The 400EX is still an awesome quad. Loved it.

400EX and Raptor 700R tearing up the dunes, Thanksgiving 2016…VIDEO

Howdy friends. Last week my brother-in-law and I spent the day riding at our favorite spot, Little Sahara sand dunes in Utah. I rode his 2007 400EX most of the day and he rode his newly-acquired Yamaha Raptor 700R SE. We had a blast and both quads did awesome. I was impressed once again how hard this 400EX pulls and how well it keeps up with the 700R in general – until the climbs are steep/loose and 400+ feet tall. The 400EX has a K&N lid, K&N filter, Pro Circuit slip on exhaust, and professional jetting job.
