Hi all, after an unfortunate crash recently I bent a tie rod on my 2001 400ex.
while the rod was bent the quad (obviously) handled horribly, darting side to side as my toe in was out of alignment on the afflicted wheel.
I took out the tie rod and straightened it out as much as possible, and Its pretty dam good if I say so myself. almost 100% as straight as before.
my issue is that even after my "fix" , the quad handles significantly better but it still doesn’t handle 100% normal like it did before the crash. It still darts a little even on smooth rut free trails and roads. My question is, does this tiny (almost nonexistent) difference in tie road length really result in such a difference? I assume I should be able to just compensate for it by extending the tie rod an eighth inch or so? any input on what to look for is appreciated.
I would also like to note that there is no other damage on the quad. A-arm, steering rack and ball joints are all good as far as I can tell.
the handling flaws I mention here are extremely minor, and honestly It could just be my mind playing tricks on me, but I don’t remember the quad wandering that much before the crash. for any extra details or clarification just ask, any input or advice is appreciated. Cheers
Been looking for suggestions on replacement tires for my 850 touring. I have the stock tires still on it (2000 miles on them) and want something that’s a little more aggressive but not crazy. I don’t want to sap the power out of this machine and I want a smooth ride when going 45-50mph. I don’t mud. I mostly trail ride in PA where you are typically in some softer forest areas, maybe some gravel/rocky paths…an occasional mud hole…but I am not a mudder. Some snow riding but the stock tires were fine…a little more aggressive will help.
I’d like to stay with stock sizing and not have to mess around with spacers. I plan to reuse my stock wheels.
I could be convinced to look at new rims if they are nice looking, but I don’t want spaced out further (prefer stock offsets/etc.)
Hey guys. Lot’s of awesome information on this forum. I sold my 06 predator and bought a 13 scrambler 850 xp. Thinking already about doing clutch , came with a bunch of extras already, but would like a better throttle response. Thanks again
I need to know if theres anything I need to do. I was told that I didn’t have to mark anything on the chain and the cam lobes will tell me where to put the chain? Can’t I just put the chain back on any way and then get the timing set down from there?
I spun a hub a few months back and I finally have the money to buy new ones but Im having a really hard time finding new ones. I would like to get plus two hubs. Are there any interchangeable hubs from other quads?
I am in the market for new tires, I like the ITP Mega Mayhem 27 inchers. Looking to order a set of 4 with rims online, can anyone recommend a site or place that offers the best pricing and or deals. Keep in mind I live in Edmonton Alberta. Thanks guys.
