Hey Everyone I recently took a trip to Carbondale for the first time. My girlfriends family has a place down there so I brought the quad with me and tried out Little Egypt Off Road Park. It was cool but a lot more difficult terrain than I anticipated. More of a place to go on a guys trip than to have the girlfriend on the back holding on for dear life. I had fun but did manage to get lost for a while place is pretty big and not marked all that well. The other place down there is called Williams Hill Pass OHV Park. Anybody go there could tell me how it is? I watched a video where they were featured and it looked pretty cool. Said they mark their trails as difficult or novice. Don’t get me wrong I love riding technical shit but when my girlfriend is on the back having a panic attack it makes it tough on her.

Sportsman 500 Misses under load

I did some front end work on my 04 Sportsman 500 HO, new ball joints and wheel bearings, I also replaced the starter. when I pulled it out of the garage I noticed it missing under load right away.
at first it was only under significant load, pinning it to climb a hill or take off fast, but it seems to be happening under less load now. twice now I was not even able to get it to start, going back later and trying it again would allow it to start.
I can recreate the issue by doing a brake lock on it.
Is there anything around the starter or front suspension I may have knocked loose that would cause this?
I took the front fenders loose, but did not remove them. I also threw a set of front brake pads at it when I did the front end.
I have put on about 60 miles with it like this, I checked the plug and it was covered in carbon so I replaced it. (maybe carbon is from running it with the miss?)
If someone could give me an idea where to start my diagnostics I would appreciate it.

Does get-torqed still exist? if not, where can us canadians find stuff like drop in cams, stm clutches, performance motor parts, etc etc..

the canadian dollar is way too low to order from the US especially with the extra shipping and duties.

any help is greatly appreciated!! thanks in advance

New Member from Michigan

Hey everyone,

Found this site a few months when I started researching what ATV to get, as you may have gathered I decided on a Grizzly. I got the 16 EPS in Camo. Got the front brush guard (on backorder), a winch, and the 2" inch receiver. Also ordered the Gold Plugs and the EHS fuel tuner, not necessarily for Mods but because of the lean issues. I’m set to pick it up this Saturday. I can’t wait to be able to ride it. I’m not new to ATV’s but I always get excited about getting a new one.

This site was very useful when trying to learn things about the new models, so thank you for everyone’s posts.

82 Honda Big Red 200E restoration

I pulled my 200e engine and removed the top end because it was smoking. Discovered bad oil ring. Had 145 lbs. compression before tear down. Any suggestions where to find a 200x top end also any other advice to wake this engine up would greatly be appreciated.

beverage storage

ok folks. so i wanted to see how you pack your bee…soda on your quads.

not so much the storage box/bag you keep them in. i have storage boxes on both of my machines… more along the lines of, what goes inside of the rack box/bag that you put the soda into to keep it from rattling around, getting crushed, and getting pierced.

ill start by sharing my technique that has worked so far…

i start with one of these cheapo cooler bags that come with certain types of beer(dont worry, they also work with soda).

i put that in the rack box, and inside of it, i put an insert from a kolpin cooler bag(the kolpin matrix) i was given inside of it.

i can probably fit about 10-12 sodas for the whole group with a bit of ice on top.

it works pretty well. especially if i keep everyone from crushing cans. ive found that crushing cans gives you extra room which lets things rattle around and you end up with cans that get micro holes in them, which results in soda all over the place.

my problem is… my kolpin matrix "insert" is wearing out. the padding is nearly non existent, and it is a bit "funky" and has an odor of stale soda. i cant find an alternative storage solution. i thought about buying some neoprene and having my girlfriend sew up something similar to it, but neoprene isnt easy to sew, and it aint cheap either.

so.. show me or describe me your soda transport ingenuity!

scrambler 500 no start

I know this is beating a dead horse, but I have a 98 500 scrambler that is backfiring very LOUD through the exhaust, and shooting a 2 foot flame through the carb when attempting to start. I have scoured the forums on this and below is a list of what I have checked, done.
Compression is 110 psi.
keyway is NOT sheared
cam timing is correct
good strong spark
lots of fuel, too much fuel almost
I have pulled the flywheel 2 times to double check the keyway
Exhaust valves are traveling full stroke and the lobe is perfect
I don’t know what I am missing. This seems like EVERY other 500 problem I have found on line yet everything I find here I have checked. Any idea what I am missing??
