Have a new 570. I noticed pretty quickly that there was a pronounced hard rattle near the gas tank cap. Its pretty pronounced, I thought I had rod knock. Pulled the seat, and found the culprit… the air snorkel is bumping the plastic body at idle.
Initial thoughts:
Engine is running rougher than intended?
The air box is positioned slightly off in the frame making the snorkel position to close to the plastic body?
I’m new here but have been a big honda guy my whole life. I’ve always had an affinity for the 300 fourtrax since they were such a great machine. I’ll cut to the chase.
I have a barn find (96′ fourtrax 300) that I’ve been putting some money into getting it fixed up. I got a seat, muffler, etc… When I got it home I put gas in and charged the battery and it literally fires right up. Starts like brand new I cant believe it! Well I can cause its a Honda….Anywho
The problem: I installed new clutch discs as well as a "one way" bearing behind the centrifugal clutch. The bearing was probably fine but the clutch plates certainly were not. Now that I have that together and the new muffler on so it doesn’t sound its going to explode at any minute another noise has become apparent. I can only describe it as a "whirring" sound with a bit of rattle to it. It speeds up and slows down with the RPM’s. I give it the old screw driver on the ear test and it is definitely in the lower end and on the right side/side of break pedal. Sounds like it is coming from the centrifugal clutch and not the clutch with the discs. My guess is either something is rubbing from when I put it back together (don’t think this is it) OR the centrifugal clutch is out to lunch and I need a new one.
I thought I’d get some opinions before dropping another $100 in parts. Thanks in advance for your help. I’ll try to post a video with the noise.
2010 550 EFI EPS. Pulling my hair out (or whats left of it). when I turn on the display has a dim backlight and the EPS is lit. Of course it won’t start. The problem started last fall when we were hunting and it fixed itself. Took it to dealer he couldn’t find problem. Thought maybe ECU, but its not. I have removed cleaned and reconnected everything. Still nothing. Have ordered a wiring harness but would like to save the $500. Anyone have any ideas??

My newly owned 2005 Sportsman 400 4×4 was wrecked hard, into a tree, and will now not start. It was running great when my daughter hit the tree, I replaced the whole front end, but now it wont run. I cleaned all the jets in the carb and made sure the diaphragm was good. I replaced the fuel pump with a brand new one, blew out all the lines and made sure none were kinked. I checked the thumb throttle points and they are apart. The atv will start of approximately a second or two…then die like its not getting fuel. If I try to start it again without resetting the key to off..it wont even attempt to start. If I cycle the key to off, then try to start it again, will attempt to idle then die.
Is there is something I am missing? Any help will be welcomed!
Riding areas near St. Louis, MO? I have been to St. Joe State Park numerous times and I am looking for something different. I have looked on a website called riderplanet.com and found a few places, but many of them listed on the site were closed. Just wondering if anyone knows of something good.
I have two problems and hoping someone on here can help.
1) Utility box will not dump like it should. It use to work when I would pull up on Release Strap. Now it doesn’t. The back seat is up (for one person use). I pull the Release Strap and nothing. I have to take the main seat off, manually pull out the big black plastic piece at an angle, and finally pull strap to have the two black plastic J hooks come off the frame (sorry don’t know official part names). In other words when I pull the strap it releases the J hooks but not the main black plastic piece that the strap travels through. This is very frustrating as I can no longer use the box as a dump box.
2) Rear passenger seat no longer converts to a one seater. It did up till a couple weeks ago. I have the backrest up and it is locked cause it doesn’t want to fold back down. It doesn’t matter what position it is in (I believe there are three). Then there is the bottom position which technically isn’t a position as it isn’t suppose to lock so the seat can be folded down. This is extremely frustrating as I cant fully use the utility box when having one person on the quad.
Just joined the group after buying my first ever ATV. Been riding dirt and street bikes for over 30 years and even though I still ride a Yamaha Super Tenere, and a KTM 300XC, I bought a 2 up 2016 Can Am Outlander 650 Max XT so that my wife could go along. She doesn’t like the motorcycles, but she really enjoys the Outlander.
Looking forward to reading the posts and picking up any info I can.
Enjoy your ride.
first, I’m sorry if this has been posted before. I have an outlander 1000xt thar I use almost exclusively for hunting. Our lease is unfortunately in a spillway so I need snorkels for summer time maintenance and such. does anyone know if the ‘snorkel my atv’ snorkels will work with the factory can-am front basket? I need a basket up front. please let me know if anyone has a solution for this.
