regulator /rectefier help.

Hi everyone . have read a lot of stuff on this subject but still having trouble . Here is what i have done so far . 2006 outlander 400 4×4 non charging battery . Checked fuses . multimeter hooked to battery terminals reads whatever the battery level is at with no change in voltage with engine rpm increase . Found gray plug with three yellow wires under handle bars ( not under seat ) . VAC between 15 and 50 from idle to near full rpm . Did the ohm test next ( not sure if i did it right or not ) set the meter to its lowest (20) ohm reading and everything fell to .09 to 1.0 . My voltage regulator is on the back and has 8 wires . one red one brown and the rest yellow some with stripes . Looks original . question ? Is it safe to assume its the voltage regulator ? Some things i have read says the regulator over charges when it goes bad . and should i do the up grade to the 800 with the harness adapter ? I can not find a original regulator that looks like mine . Most have less wires or is the up graded version . Cheapest i can find the upgrade is 263.00on ebay . Is there a cheaper option ? I’m pretty sure its not the stator . So any help that anyone could give would be great . Thank you .
