New owner / new member. My name is Jake and I’m from the great state of Wisconsin. Just saying hello!
I recently purchased a 2016 Sportsman 850 Touring. So far I really like it. My one complaint is that there isn’t a factory option available to fill the rack space occupied by the rear seat when not riding 2-up. I sure wish Polaris had a factory solution to that issue, but otherwise I dig it!
I’m looking forward to learning some things and getting ideas from you all!
This past Saturday I bought a new 2016 Polaris Sportsman 450 HO. It is not only my first Polaris, but also my first AWD ATV. Back in the day I had a Suzuki LT250R race quad and a little Yamaha 200 Blaster. But I am really looking forward to getting some time on this 450 on the trails. Future plans include winch, grip heaters, thumb warmer, hand guards, rear box, and a plow.
I live about an hour SE of Pittsburgh PA and have been riding off-road motorcycles for 35 years. But I am a total newb when it comes to ATV. This seems like a great place to learn and hang out. I work as an Electrical Engineer, probably spend as much time shooting archery as I do enjoying motorcycles and now ATV’s. My wife also rides.
Well just wanted to say hey and give a short intro. Here is the Sportsman 450HO when I first brought it home.
What’s going on y’all, I am new here on the forums, I just bought a 2016 420 sra. I am running 28 inch mega mayhems,,,, which I don’t recommend, going deep snorkels and highlifter 2 inch lift I just put an epi compitition clutch in, which I am very pleased with. However I do want just a bit more power was looking into a big gun exhaust and power commander 5 throttle and fuel. Would greatly appreciate any suggestions on these two or any other performance enhancements I can do
I am currently fixing my dad’s trail boss 325. I tore it down most of the way last night and it has a bad connecting rod bearing. Tonight I will be taking the cases out of the frame if I can figure out how to get the clutch off.
Anyways, I am from Southern Illinois, and I do like riding ATVs a lot! I also enjoy guns, brewing beer, fishing, etc….. Glad to be here and hope to be a contributing member of the forum!

I was curious about ethanol in the premium marked gas (91 octane) that I have been buying for 2 cents a liter less than reg gas. I buy it because it,s
alcohol free. I needed a graduated beaker and non to be had in this part of the woods. $25 to get one ordered . so a 60 ml syringe for $3 and a block of wood and a little 5 min epoxy , a beaker is born. the premium gas is ethanol free. the reg gas has ethanol . I put exactly 10 ml of water in first and then add the gas and shake it up and with the reg gas u can see the results in the pic. from 10 ml to 15 ml of water.
PS I,ll bet Kentco is on holiday scuba diving .
I will try and condense the story, went out riding and after a while, my quad wouldn’t shift into N, went thru the gears 1,2,3 just fine no neutral. After investigation I found a broken fuse, so I changed it and charged the battery. Worked ok for a couple days, then again sometimes it wouldn’t chagne gears, stay in neutral, or stay in 1st, you could always change gears using the manual tool.
Current issue, it stays in N and doesnt shift at all.
So I had previously bought an angle sensor so I figured why not give it a try, now comes the weird part, when I try to remove the bolts from bottom panel I got shocked, ok so I disconnected the negative battery, go back and boom shocked again. I removed the positive cable and then I can remove the panel. So I change the angle sensor, go back to put the bolts on the bottom panel and wham, I’m getting shocked again. Battery is 100% disconnected.
I am in the early stages of getting ready to rebuild a Trail Boss 325 engine, as it has grenaded the connecting rod bearing on the crank. So far I have taken the head and cylinder off, then I saw how much play there was in the connecting rod and how many hunks of bearing material there were in the bottom end. This is my Dad’s ATV, He wants me to move forward with a rebuild on it, so tonight I will get the crankcase out of the frame and split to check the condition of the crank.
It HAD a newer engine in it, until someone borrowed it from my dad and they destroyed it because they never take care of anything.
I do not have a flywheel puller or a clutch puller. Any substitutes?
Also, depending on if the crank needs machined (I am sure it does) I haven’t the slightest clue on how to size bearings or tell the machine shop what to do. Is there a good resource for that?
