Oil in air filter

I took my 03 rancher to Busco beach over the weekend and wnet through a hole that was a little too deep and got water in my exhaust. After I drained it I looked in the air box and it was coated in engine oil. My buddy said I have bad rings and that’s what caused it but it wasn’t anything to get really concerned about. Is he right or should I get going on fixing it?

Joined because I almost bought a 2015 XMR.

Unfortunately, the 2 dealers close to me here in Alaska seem to believe charging almost $1000 over MSRP will make them money. And I have heard nothing good about service or their price for it. There are other dealers in the state that I would deal with, but they are 5-6 hours away. So I’ll not buy a Can Am. I like my Grizzly but need another atv and wanted a V-twin.

There is a lot of good info/people on this forum and it has been very helpful in my search. Thanks for all the help!!!

1986 TRX350 doesn’t stay running with choke ON?

Okay so I’m fixing this ATV up for some guys on a farm and they ran the thing with a rusted tank and the fuel filter got so plugged up to the point it wouldn’t suck any gas. So we did the Electrolytic Rust removal and made it look like new and bought a new fuel filter. It also has a new air filter.

At first it had a problem where it would rev on it’s own and wouldn’t come back all the way down to idle but now I’ve fixed that playing with the a/f mixture screw and it comes right back down to idle just fine. We bought a new spark plug and threw that in and fired right up. but we have one slight problem where the choke doesn’t seem to idle when it is on. It will fire once like it wants to start but it doesn’t keep running. The only way you can keep it running with the choke ON is if you keep giving it half-full throttle and it will blow smoke and sound like garbage. But it idles just fine and has no problem when the choke is off. It is weird I have the opposite of what people have where it only runs with the choke ON instead. Our 2003 Honda Foreman 450 idles with just higher revs and will sit with it on all it wants, but this four-wheeler won’t even run with the choke on? Help is much appreciated! Thanks!
