Fourche Mountain Trail April 10, 2015

Once arriving I immediately noticed how limited the parking area is. It’s basically an old forest service road that dead ends. There is one area that allows for turning around and it’s not at the end of the entrance road. Plan on backing up with your trailer at some point either while parking or trying to leave. The parking area definitely needs expanding. If that entrance road could be connected at both ends to HWY 270 it would help and make it one way entry with at least parallel parking on both sides of that road.

These trails are much narrower in width than Wolfpen Gap and there are many zigzag, quick left-right turns and therefore not quite as fast as Wolfpen Gap. Machines wider than 50” will have to choose their lines carefully between trees! Some trails are dirt and mud, much like the Kisatchie National Forest trials back home in Louisiana. Other trails are very rocky like the rougher trails of Wolfpen. Creek crossings are still nice without the “overpasses” like Wolfpen.

Be warned that there are some fallen trees cut off the trail and the clearance for OHVs is tight! Slow down when approaching or you may hit them.
Overall I’d say these trails are very fun for OHVs. May not have the miles of trails that other systems have but fun still.

Best trails:
1 to 10 – Woods riders will like this mostly dirt and twisty section
8 to 7 – Trail around Point 8 is very rough and rocky
7 to 6 – Mainly a road but the high elevation provides great views
6 to 5 – Mean descent this direction!
5 to 4 – Good elevation changes at east and west ends with ridge travel between

Muffler options

Hi all,

Well got the foreman 450 back together and this time it seems to be running perfect except it really needs an exhaust…

Looking around, these are pretty pricey – from $250ish and up – that seems rather crazy!

I saw a youtube video where a guy welded a car muffler on one and it seemed to work well for him and although he did a good job and it was very quiet he had the muffler sticking off the back of the ATV something I don’t want to have.

Question is, are there any good options one could pick up at a local auto store? Anyway to cut open and rebuild a stock muffler if it has stuff rattling on the inside or is the only options forking out over $200+?

Couple of Newbie Questions

Hey guys, just bought an 88 Honda 300 4×4 from the father-in-law, have 2 newb questions.
1) I want to put new tires on it, was leaning towards running a 24×9" front and 25×12.50" rear. It has the factory 11" rims, they will work with a 25×12.50 right? Kenda has a bearclaw that size I was leaning towards.

2) I noticed that most of the 300’s have a black "guard" that covers out past the edge of the fenders another couple of inches. Where would a guy find some of those?

Thanks,
Nick

85 200s clutch issue, puzzled

Hi, first post, I’m baffled, I just replaced both clutches o9n this 200s with shifter activated clutch, centrifugal is fine, but i’m puzzled as how the manual shift activated clutch works, i put it back together according to the manual but it is now full time engage. When assembled the pressure plate is down by the 4 x10mm head bolts, it looks like by activating the shifter it causes the lift arm to push down actually putting more pressure on the pressure plate??? I cannot figure out how this clutch even disengages, it is the 4 fiber 3 metal plate clutch, I need some help with this one, thanks help much appreciated
