400EX vs Raptor 700R power comparison VIDEO

Howdy friends,

This video is not pushing any agenda, it’s just a video experiment I did on a ride two weeks ago. I rode a 2007 Honda 400EX up a hill, then rode a Raptor 700R up the same hill, and took a video. For comparison sake, both quads were using the exact same 20" ITP Sand Star paddle tires on Douglas aluminum rims.

2007 Honda 400EX with K&N lid, K&N filter, pre-filter, Pro Circuit pipe, and professional jetting to this elevation (5000 ft).

2013 Yamaha Raptor 700R Special Edition, all stock.

I am the rider, 160 lbs.

The 400EX starts out in 4th, then drops to 3rd, then 2nd gear to get up.

The 700R starts out in 3rd (same speed as 400EX in 4th), and stays in 3rd…

The 400EX is still an awesome quad. Loved it.

Error Code Help

Hi all,
New to the forum and looking for some help. I have a 2008 Honda Rincon 680. When I turn on my atv the fan immediately turns on and I get the ESP and FI lights blink. There are 4 slow blinks first followed by 4 more blinkS faster.

Any help would be greatly appreciated….thanks!

Think I made a mistake…

So i bought a brand new 2016 outlander 1000 xmr in digital camo last month and I think I may have made a mistake in purchasing a quad.. I have ridden dirtbikes for a while now and my thought was that this would be something I could take the kids for a ride on every once in a while.. The problem is, it’s not very often that i have anyone in tow and to be honest the quad is not nearly as fun IMO as the dirtbike.. I think i talked myself into the quad with the kids and all but they are still pretty young and realistically will not be out much yet.. Maybe in a couple more years i could get a SXS which I think may be safer and easier for family fun..
I only have about 5 hours on the quad, but unfortunately i may be listing up for sale pretty soon… I’m sure I’ll probably take a beating on this one.. I went all in when i bought it by also buying a new set of wheels and 28" Bighorn 2.0’s, the two up seat, a 4" rack extension, and the 20gal semi rigid can am bags.. I’m in VA and was curious where you guys have had the best luck selling??

94 sportsman 400 4×4 lift

Has anyone on here lifted an older model sportsman 400L 4×4? I purchased a 1994 sportsman 400 4X4 and I am looking for maybe 1-2" of lift. Everywhere I read, people are lifting 2000+ sportsmans that no longer have the chain driven rear axle. All those posts discuss how the lifts break the CV joints and what not.

When lifting a sportsman 4×4 in the 90-97 year range, is the CV joint angle an issue with a 2" spacer lift? How is the rear lifted since it is chain driven, and does the lift affect anything with the chain and how it operates?

Either that or I I am thinking about adding some spacers to stiffen the springs a little bit. Do spacers put the CV joints at the same risk of damage as the lift kits? Do the spacers get installed at the top, or the bottom of the spring?

does anyone have any pictures of their machine in this year range that is lifted? Specifically the rear lift bracket, or the front lift spacers?

Thanks.

Sportsman 400L tranny fluid

I purchased a 1994 sportsman 400 4X4 about a month ago. Runs good, but I started doing the maintenance on it and have a few questions.

On the right side of the machine, there is a chrome dipstick. I assume that this is the transmission fluid dipstick. Looking at the manual, it says that if it has a type 1, or type 3 chain drive transmission to use chain case oil, and it is has a type 2 gear type transmission to use some other kind of oil.

So my first question is, how do I know what type of transmission I have. Since it is the automatic with hi, low, and reverse, I think it is the type 3, but how do I know for sure?

2nd question, when i pulled the dipstick, the fluid looked clean and at a good level. However I noticed that the fluid is red in color. Is chain case oil Red, or did the previous owner put ATF fluid in this transmission? Even though it calls for chain case oil, have people ran ATF in this type of machine transmission, or should I drain it ASAP?

3rd question, I am reading about the counter balance fluid. Where is the drain plug for the counter balance fluid?

Thanks for the help everyone.
