Front Diff Noise and Increase Resistance Issue – ’05 Sportsman 800

I bought a ’05 Sportsman 800 with 2700 miles primarily for snow removal on a 400′ driveway about 6 months ago. I’ve used it several times, and I haven’t had an issue – until today.

Towards the end of the job, I noticed a rotary squealing noise coming from the front differential area that tracked with the speed (more frequent with higher speed). It also took more throttle to move it. I heard a couple small squealing noises towards the end of the job the last time I plowed, but I didn’t think much of it.

The noise is present in 2×4 mode, AWD mode, and in forward and reverse. Also, it was about 0 degrees out, if that makes a difference.

What can I check to diagnose this issue? Has anyone experienced a similar problem?

Superwinch switch

Ok so i have a super winch (personally prefer warn but its what came with it) on the front of my foreman. It has the hand held controller. Im wondering if that can be switched out for the handle bar mounted switch, if so do i just need the switch or do i need some sort of wiring to change it out. Every one ive ever had has had a handle bar mounted switch and honestly this hand held controller is driving me nuts.

School me on Wet Clutch Deletes

I’ve read a few threads on this but suprisingly there is not a lot of information out there on this.

From what I’ve been able to find out, folks are having issues keeping the cam plate splines from letting go due to the hammering they take from the 700’s. Is anyone have any success with their deletes?

Also,
Without a wet clutch how is it possible to come to a complete stop with engine running in gear since the primary and secondary are always engaged? What takes the place of the wet clutch to allow disengagement from the motor to trans aside from Nutral?

Thanks,
Robert

Oil filter alternative?

After just getting back from the local Can-am dealer and buying 2 Can-am brand oil filters for the Outlander, there has to be an alternative to getting flogged for $42 for 2 filters.

Has/does anyone know of another brand or location to purchase oil filters for a reasonable price? My filter for my diesel is huge and only costs $9. Hoping to find somewhere in the Southern Alberta region for a filter supplier

EDIT: the shop told me that this filter will fit any Outlander, any year.

Honda rebuild problem

I torn down a badly running 2009 Honda foreman to clean out the bottom and replaced the top end.
Everything is put back together but the stater clicks. So i removed it from the engine and noticed that I can’t move the starter gears with my fingers. I removed the stator with cover then the gears move fine. When I put the stator cover back on starter gears won’t move again.
I’m stumped any help would be great!

Deep Powder Riding with the Grizz *Pic Heavy & Vid*

Once again we took advantage of the new snow and made way to Leslie Creek in the mountains behind our houses in NE Washington to ride. The ride averaged 3+ feet deep and the snow has no real base so its a dig dig at full throttle the whole way. We both have 30" Mudder Inlaws with 2" Highlifter kits. Lots of people always ask why we don’t just get track and call it a day. Honestly, I like the challenge of wondering just how far we can make it and enjoy being out of the house. I’ll save the tracks for when I get a new SXS and want to cruise in comfort. My buddy had a bum axle before we left and after we cleared the Kelly Hump, his tire hit a bolder and popped the axle which cut the ride short. I took a fallen tree top through my front left fender, just missed my leg, broke my side plastics and grazed down the side of my motor. Luckily, it did no damage to the motor, and I’ll be replacing some not so cheap plastics. It’s all part of the game, got to pay to play, and we ride the hell out of our machines so they are 2500+ hard miles. On the flip side, we never got stuck and had to winch out at all that day so that was a plus lol. As for the video, I apologize in advance. I shimmed the camera mount up before I left and it still is shooting a bit too low and not far enough ahead. Also, though the camera editing program is decent, I can’t find a way to make transitions between the clips I put in there, so it jumps around a bit. It’s shot in 1080p/60fps so you can turn down the quality if need be. I’ll get it dialed in soon.

400 EX Axle Nut Will NOT Slide over Axle!

Hello, I just replaced carrier bearings on my 2003 and now I can’t get the (new) axle nut over the axle far enough to install the clip. I had difficulty getting the old one off but didn’t think much of it. So I decided to get a whole new nut, locking nut, and sleeve since the old one was rough.
The sleeve and locking nut slide over no problem but the large nut just won’t go.

Do I have a bent axle? There was no wobbling or shaking prior to disassembly and I can’t see any damage??
