Checking Engine Oil Level

I wondered why Polaris would specify running the engine and then shutting it off and checking the oil level after about 15 seconds. That is what is in my 2014 XP owners manual and shop manual. I thought it didn’t matter if you checked it after it sat awhile or according to the manual. I just did an experiment. It has been sitting a couple of days and I checked the oil level without starting. The stick indicated just right on the full mark. I ran it a couple of minutes and then shut if off and checked the oil level right at 15 seconds. The stick indicated just right on the add mark. I think the cause is a lot of the oil is pumped up into the engine and takes awhile to drain back. IMO that’s not a good situation since most people don’t read the manual and just check the engine oil before a ride without running the engine first. I apologize for the picture quality. My camera didn’t want to focus… First picture is before running the engine and second is after running the engine and checking at 15 seconds. BTY that engine has about 150 hours on it and about 40 hours since the last oil change. Doesn’t use any oil and runs perfect.
