1997 Honda fourtrax 300 4×4 rear end

I bought a 1997 Honda fourtrax 300 4×4 the other day with a brand new rear end all it needed was two spacers because the gears would grind. Well I put those in and found out I was missing a pinion needle bearing so I bought one put it in and went riding well for about the first 45 min to a hour it ran good and then it started clicking on the rear end and I could tell that the gears were grinding again so I loaded it up and took it home to look at . Well I thing it is this bolt that you tighten down and it goes inside the needle bearing and you have to kids beat it in there and every time you turn the ratchet it pulls it out a little bit so I just quit tightening it . But I think that is the problem , anyone have any other idea of what it could be?

Ok so I was a bit eager to see how deep the water got a couple weeks ago..she was snorkeled but didn’t have the time to run my vent lines..well I guess I’m paying for it cause it is 23 degrees here and everything is frozen including my rear end lol jtd locked up and won’t role took my drum plate off my rear break and nothing but ice..so I melted the ice and still won’t role..I’m 99.9% sure there is water frozen in my rear diff..especially since it was just fine the other day when it was 45….suggestions? It is a 16 420 rancher

Rancher 420 ignition problem

Can anyone tell me how many volts should be going through the g/y wire to my ignition coil? It’s a 2007 Honda rancher 420 fm. When I press the ignition switch it is pushing less than 1v to the coil. I know that isn’t right and the only thing I can think would cause that is a faulty ECU

2003 Rancher 350 ES Restoration Help

Hello everyone.

I’ve read a few topics on it, but I was hoping to get some fresh and specific guidance and advise.

I bought a 2003 Rancher about 6 months ago for 400 bucks. It was pretty rough, and not running. I just started working on it a few weeks ago. The plan is to restore it as a loaner for friends and my kids to learn on.

I was told it smoked real bad, and needed a top end job. Carb was off the bike and was told it needed rebuilding. He said the display didn’t work, and the ES didn’t work. There was a lever welded onto the manual shift link.

I purchased a new carb for 65 bucks last week. Hooked up a battery from another four wheeler to it, and it started right up. Smoked something AWFUL. The ES did not work (as told) nor did the display. All the forward gears worked and reverse worked (using the manual shift)

I know I can rebuild the motor (cylinder/rings/valves/head and check rod/crank/cam) I want to make sure I can get the ES fixed before I drop any more money into it. I’d like to keep my total cost around 1,500 dollars.

At this point, I’d like some help trouble shooting the ES. I ordered a "new" used display off eBay, and it should be here in a few days. Would a bad display prevent the ES from working? I also ordered a new shift angle sensor, and I have that already. I’m going to order a new shift motor today. I’m going to assume the handlebar control works, but I haven’t checked it with a meter yet. The head light, kill switch, start, and everything else all work properly on it.

Is there anything else that would prevent the ES from working? What else should I look at? Again, could the bad display be a cause of the ES not working? I feel like a bad shift motor could be a definite cause, and its cheap enough to replace right off the bat.

Loss of oil pressure???? It won’t move!

Okay so about 4 months ago I hopped on my 03 rincon 650 and drove it to the shop and got some things got back on my quad and drove 200′ to my buddy’s quad and talked to him for a second I put mine in drive and it wouldn’t go anywhere. Put it in reverse and the same thing. I’m thinking O rings failed on my oil pump orrrrr????? I know I have to do a oil pressure check on it to be sure. But what do you guys think?

2003 400ex shifting issues

So this past weekend I went riding at my buddy’s and it was running great, I stop for 2 minutes. Start it up and it starts making a clunking noice when I put it in gear, it wouldn’t shift into 2nd. So I brought it home and tried it again yesterday and I had too force it into 2nd and once I did that it ran great and went threw all the gears smooth. Today I hope back on it and it will not go into 2nd at all only goes to 1st and when I pull up straight to neutral
