Just replaced the belt on my 2004 700 efi. It did not help much. The old belt showed very little wear. The new one went on easy.
After replacing it and starting it, I heard some "tick"-ing. Discovered the left ignition wire was arcing to the frame where the left front shock mounts. Pulling it slightly back would end the arcing, so I wrapped it with some pipe insulation and zip-tied it.
Machine is sluggish at best.
Here are some parameters I took note of:
Engagement appears to be occurring between 1200 and 1300 rpm. Machine idles right around 1000 rpm.
On a paved road:
In High , machine accelerates slowly but easily to about 25 mph, then will slowly climb to about 35 mph at best. Machine is turning about 4400 RPM max at this point.
In Low, machine will quickly accelerate to 25 mph and stay there, with max rpm achieved at about 5500 rpm.
The primary clutch has this blue spring in it, which I will assume is the original.
I bought the machine used in 2007. It only has 800 miles on it now, and sat for over 6 years in a shed (I was stationed overseas) until I recently changed a fuel tank because the pump and everything else inside it severely rusted.
I changed the tank, filter, and fuel lines, and had the injectors cleaned by a dealer.
Appreciate any comments you guys might have on the performance, and what seems like very low max RPM when riding.
Hello, I’m new to the Polaris forum but not to ATV and motorcycle rebuilding. I bought a 400L that had been sitting for quite some time. Another person had tried to "fix" it. I got it home and started going through the basics. I have fixed all the electrical issues and have rebuilt the carb, checked and cleaned the reeds etc etc etc…..
The carb is set to factory specs according to the manual atm.
My cheap compression checker reads about 110 psi. Past experience applied, should be enough to at least try to start it for a 2 stroke.
It will not try to start unless I pour gas into the cylinder or the top of the carb.
The top of the piston looks good. I have not pulled the clutch off yet to check the left crank seal.
Is the 110 compression just not good enough for one of these 400’s??
I hate to pull the jug and go through all of that if there is something little I am missing that is unique to a Polaris vs. other machines to get them running.
I’m looking to order some build-date specific parts. I know it’s a year 2000 from a quick vin search, but I need to know the exact date. Can anyone help me with this?
Just looking for ideas. I want to get a good GPS for my quad. I don’t need anything with camera’s or phones or portapotties or whatever lol. I just want a good BASIC gps. Thanks in advance.
:tragedy:Can anyone tell me what part #29 is called or even better what is the part number on the rubber connector I will need to replace mine as it has a tear in it. I’m looking to waterproof my clutch cover and partzilla doesn’t list the name of #29 and it doesn’t list the rubber part that connects the tubes with hose clamps
