-98 6×6 problem

Hello.
Have rebuild the carb after it has been sitting a few years with no use at all.
The bowl was covered in a green coating.
Changed all jets and cleaned it well.
Have 140 main jet and 40 pilot jet.
Needle at 4. groove from top
Float height set to 14,7mm

It did run ok with sputtering idle when hot.
From time to time it wont rev up with half tank of fuel.
Changed te air filter a week ago and its worse than ever.

Bogs when applying trottle, high idle for i while and returning to normal after a bit.

Removed air filter box and it runs fine.

As far as i can see the carb is clean and i have blown trough all jets.

Any tips to do next??

2012 Sportsman X2 – Problems starting when it’s cold

I’ve been dealing with this issue for quite sometime and I’m finally at a point where I would like to figure out what exactly is the problem.

It always happens when its below 15 degrees F or so and while I’m ice fishing.

A couple times over the years when I go to turn it on, I don’t hear the fuel pump kick on and then I know I am going to have trouble. All it will do is try turning over and never fire. This is probably happened about 4-5 times over the last 3 years or so when its really cold and normally windy. A few of the times I end up pushing it out of the wind and keep trying until randomly and thankfully it starts up. Other times it’s happened after hauling it home and I just push it off the trailer and into the heated garage where after a little while everything works perfectly.

Now yesterday, it was hovering around 0 so I hadn’t let it sit for probably more than 15 minutes and I went to try to start it, mostly out of curiosity if I was going to have trouble again. I turn the key on and the gear indicator shows ‘–‘. Naturally, it wouldn’t even turn over. Nothing. I tried rocking the unit, running the shifter up and down between gears, etc. I went even as far as taking the battery out, bringing it into the ice shack to warm up and then reinstalling it to see if that worked. I ended up having to push it to the shore line (luckily I was about as close to the vehicle as I’ve ever been) and then winching it back onto my trailer. Of course when I get home I go to push it off the trailer and boom, everything is back to normal and working perfectly. That part of the equation is what REALLY stumps me.

I’m at a loss. Any help would be much appreciated.

Loss of 4X4

The wife was plowing today and got my 700 stuck I came home after dark and tried to un-stuck it when I turned on the lights the speedo started blinking (low battery) and I had no 4X4 in forward or reverse, little red light on 4X4 selector went out as well, when I turned the lights off 4X4 was good to go, little red light came back on ….question is does the front end magnets need that much power to engage the 4X4?? Time for a new battery anyway but this has me wondering how much power does that magnet use?

Battery Question

[B]2013 500 HO. Battery is getting weak. No snow plow, no winch, no extras. I bought a WPS part # CB14A-A2 for my wifes 1999 335 Sportsman and it seems very strong after even 2 years of very little riding , My 2013 500 HO is right now dead, I ride only about 10min at a time twice a week. Any suggestion on that’s the best battery to purchase and maybe a runner up battery? BTW paid $50.00 for my wife’s battery at the Polaris dealer….Again, thank’s for asking advice from an old post. It’s all old news till it happens to you… Oh, also a part # if possible would be of great help……….Thanks…Ricky

2010 500HO fuel starvation issue–help?

My 2010 Sportsman 500 HO has a fuel starvation issue. It is probably self-induced as it started after I replaced a clogged pilot jet. It idles fine and runs normally for a few hundred yards and then dies to idle. After idling a few minutes the cycle repeats itself. It will not sustain more than 300 rpm under load. My thought is that the floats are sticking closed keeping full fuel flow from going into the main jet. I have pulled the carb again but see nothing that looks out of place.
Is it possible that something else could be restricting fuel flow? My only other possible culprits are the fuel pump or relocated fuel lines. When I replaced the jet I also rerouted the fuel lines so I could more easily access the fuel shutoff. Had to disconnect the lines at the fuel pump. The shutoff valve is now slightly lower than the fuel pump. Any suggestions??

*HELP* 2006 Sportsman 450

Whats goin on guys,

So I live in the Ohio area, and I was out tonight plowing the driveway for the first time ever! This is the first quad I’ve owned, so I dont know much about them, just the basics. Anyway, I had the plow set up, running it in 4 wheel drive, and it was doing fine. Using the winch to pick the plow up and down, lights were also running. The bike was running fine, I got off it to adjust the plow and it stayed at idle just fine, got back on and continued the process.

About 15 mins into the plowing, I stopped the bike to turn it around to go back
down the driveway, and the second I let off the throttle, the bike shut down. When I went to try to start it again, with the key start, the starter made a grinding noise, it wasnt turning over. The best way I can describe the grinding was as if the machine was running already, and you turned the key. Thats the noise it made. After a few tries, I resorted to the pull start, and half a pull and she started right up, no issues. Then I put the bike into gear again and unless I was physically giving it gas, it died out again. Luckily I was done with the driveway so I kept my thumb on the gas, put it into drive, and put the bike away. I dont know why It would stall out like that, also why the starter was griding?

Any questions I’ll be happy to answer about this…just wondering what I can do to maybe fix it, or to just give a check to see what is going on as a possible problem..

Thanks in advance,

Battery Warning Light On

Was about ten miles away from truck the other day when the battery warning indicator came on. It was a few degrees below zero. Turned around and went home. I bought and installed a new battery. New battery is showing 13.2 v resting, old was 12.9 new battery is 14.5v at idle ,old was same. lights on at idle is 14.4+ at 2000rpm it is 14.5v warning light comes on around 3000 rpm and multimeter reads 17v and keeps going up.
So sounds like the stator is making electrictiy but the voltage regulator is done ?? Machine is a 2013 500 HO Any input is apreciated

Thanks
