Engine low tapping or ticking

Hello, so I had posted about how to know if top end is getting oil because when I changed oil filter there was barely any oil in with filter and someone explained how to tell by loosening nut on top of oil line which I did and top end was getting oil but im hearing a low tapping or ticking coming from front top of engine I believe. and gears sound like there winding out really fast making more noise than power.. I really dnt think it sounded like that before so now I’m afraid to ride in case theres engine damage. Has anybody dealt with this ?or any idea what it could be? Oil filter was not in backwards just to be clear and the oil filter that was in when I realized there was very little oil in with filter was k&n. Any info at all would be greatly appreciated please

I have a 1997 honda fourtrax 400, owned since new. Repaced rear differential 7 yrs ago. Thought it failed again. Replaced differential but rear wheels still do not pull. u joint and driveshaft are ok. Any suggestions? Only thing I noticed that was different was that the bolt going into the new differential was not tight. Snugged it up and installed. Maybe ring and pinion need adjustment. Anyone got any ideas? Sure could use some.

Newbie

Hi, I am an older owner of a 1993 Honda 300 Fourtrax. I have had it for about 18 years and still see no reason to buy a newer one. I plow with it, hunt with it and do yard work with it. It serves most of the purposes I need an atv for. Because I am finally starting to do a little work on it I thought this place would be a world of knowledge for someone like me. I also own a 2004 Honda VTX 1300 and am a member of the VTX owners association and have enjoyed sharing and receiving information on theses great bikes. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks: Rick

Whats up all!

Thought I would take a moment and say hello. I recently picked up a used 400EX a few weeks ago, this being my first sport quad. Many years ago, I started out on a Yamaha Timber wolf 250, (anyone even remember those), then sold it to get into sport bikes. After A LOT of miles and a few crashes, I decided that maybe it was time to trade the pavement in for some dirt and get back into quads. I chose the Honda for probably the same reason everyone else did; simplicity and reliability. And while I know I’m preaching to the choir here, holy smokes. Someone should have warned me what this thumper can do. Then again, when I was growing up, a Warrior was the baddest 4-stroker on the planet.

The TRX has a new DID chain, rear sprocket, (I need to do some more research into that, I don’t think its factory gearing), HMF Pipe, K&N filter, new cables all the way around, HID headlights (that work when they want to), nerf bars and new brake pads. I don’t have any real plans for it, other than buying some new gear like gloves and some goggles for the helmet. I’ll try and get some pictures up soon. Again, thanks for having me!

Hi to the group. I have a Honda TRX 350 FM2 code G152.thought to be 2002

Problem just stopped dead. No Honda dealer near me. I downloaded some fault finding instruction. I have no HT. checked rectifier, checked alternator for continuity, checked wiring. I have full battery voltage on the two thick wires into the CDI. I have checked the voltage across the blue/yellow and the green/white terminals in the CDI. using A Fluke 73 multimeter I get AC .22V. I was looking for .7 peak but my meter will not read peak. Can I safely assume that the CDI is US. A poss clue is as it so little use I have got sick of buying batteries so just one pull on the cord and it goes. Was thinking if the battery went completely open circuit the voltage may spike quite high and curdle something. The CDI is the that the one that the plug goes on top and it does not have the sockets on the side. It is stamped HN 01

thanks in advance

Hi Yall,

I’m Jim and I’ve been a Honda rider for many years. My son now has a trx90 that we are actually having problems with but I posted that in the repair section. I am from Maryland where it is hard to find close places to ride but we are fortunate to have access to our hunting property during the offseason.

Thanks and Hello again!

New and need some help please

I have a 2004 Foreman 450S and the other day I was coming up the driveway in first gear and hit the throttle hard. I heard a crunch noise and it wouldn’t move. Sounded like jumping out of gear. I pulled the rear end out and all looked good with it so I cleaned it up and put it back together. The drive shaft looked ok too. I started it up and when you shift gears while in 2wd it does nothing, no noise, just the rpm comes up like its in neutral. If I put it in neutral you can’t hardly push it because the back wheels will drag. If you put it is 4wd it will go but with a strain because it is still dragging the back wheels. When I put the rear end back together it seemed to turn easily. I work on atv’s as a hobby but I haven’t ran into this problem before. Looking for some input.
