Hello from Mid-MO

Hello everyone. New to the site, but have wrenched on ATV’s and bikes for years. Have had lots of bikes, but no 4-wheelers til just recently. A farmer gave me a ’94 trx200d that was sitting in the weeds. I’ve got $65 dollars in it: new chain, rear brake shoes, and hand brake cable. The big problem? He kept the wheels! So I’ve got a Wheeler all ready to ride, but no wheels. I’ve found some wheels off a recon that I think will fit, they’re 12 inch front, and 10 inch rear. The bolt pattern is the same, just wondering about tire height. I cannot find any stock size wheels without buying new ones. Any thoughts? Mike

1986 Honda TRX350 Starting Issue

Greetings from Virginia. I’m a new member who is in need of your help. I have a 1986 Honda Fourtrax TRX350 that appears to have a starting issue. The scooter has been running great and just died while my wife was riding it. It will not start. It makes a single click noise and that’s it. I was able to kick start it to get it back to the house but it will not kick-start now. The battery is brand new but I removed the battery cables and connected them to a known good battery; same result, a single click. I removed all of the cover plates around the battery and checked all the fuses and they are all good. The source of the click is coming from the Starter Relay Switch (Switch Assembly Starter Magnetic). I disconnected, inspected, and reconnected the leads. They look brand new. No corrosion whatsoever. When I hold it and hit the ignition button it just makes a single click noise and kind of hops in my hand. I figured before I ordered a replacement part ($62 for an OEM replacement), I would ask the forum for assistance. I am NOT that mechanically inclined. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated. another newbie with an old 300 fourtrax

Hi all, just another newbie that bought an old 1995 Honda TRX 300 FW a few days ago. Of course being that old it has a few issues. (I bought a similar 2 wheel drive fourtrax a year ago that was a basket case partially disassembled that I was told needed piston, rings, and a cylinder. I just stuck it in a shed at the time for use as parts) When I went to pick up my 1995 4wd 4 trax a few days ago the starter would not work and the battery the seller put in less than a month ago was dead. We jumped it but the starter motor was bad. It did kick start though only when choked would it run and I loaded it up and brought it home. I had to push it off my trailer as the battery was stone dead and it wouldn’t kick start. The next day I charged the battery, rode it about 2000 feet on half choke and shut it off. I could not restart the thing and decided to fix the starter in the morning. Next morning I noticed it was leaking gas from the carb vent. I pulled the battery and put it on a trickle charger because I suspect something, maybe the faulty starter? was making a dead short and draining the battery. I changed the starter out but haven’t swapped or cleaned the carb yet because it’s raining this morning. I looked at the air cleaner yesterday and the air cleaner box was full of gasoline. About 4" deep. The air cleaner just looks like wire mesh. I took the air cleaner off the parts bike yesterday along with the carb. Also the seat, as the seat was torn on my ‘new’ bike. I hope the rain ends soon so I can swap the carbs, put the ‘new’ air cleaner on, reinstall the gas tank and battery and see what happens.

new 400ex from NY

Whats up guys…started lurking 2 years ago when I got my 07 250ex. sold it in the spring and wanted to get a bigger quad.

looked on the local Facebook atv/dirtbike BST, finally found a "nice" 400ex with a registration (lots of stolen stuff around here, i wanted to be safe lol). I found this 2007 400ex, the guy said it was his girlfriends and they broke up so he wanted to get rid of it. Fast forward to picking up up…i was pleasantly surprised to find the 05-07 had reverse which comes in handy once you get used to having it.

when i went to pick it up (3 weeks ago), it was a little more beat up than it looked in the pictures. I had a friend who owns a 400ex come to test ride it to make sure it felt like a 400ex should. He said it worked fine but needed some adjustments, the seller set up the clutch and other controls for wheelies, etc.

upon arrival i found it needed the following:
-bumper
-oil change (planned on doing it anyway)
-ASV clutch was banged up from a roll
-missing tail light (from wheelies)
-Headlight switch did not work

…so i bought it still and brought her home. the registration for the bike is what i wanted to be safe, so i handed over $2,000.

The bike after i cleaned it up initially w/ existing upgrades:

-TUSK nerf bars
-Protaper bars
-ASV brake/clutch
-Billet gas cap
-White brothers ProCarbon II slip on (modified from a 450r)
-jetted
-Gel battery

didn’t ride until i changed the oil and got it Registered, didn’t want to worry about it.

After i went at it with a toothbrush, bleach, Fantastic, Armorall, etc…the arsenal, also adding the following:

-Black shock covers
-DG Bumper from eBay (old style, cut it out of the pic)
-License plate :happy:
-Black Rockstar grips

I also noticed, once adjusting the handlebar controls to fit me better, the front master cylinder perch was cracked…concealed by the proximity of the accelerator lever (wondered why it was so close to each other, binding up the accelerator lever)

So i went back to eBay to buy a few more things to mint it up, since i plan on keeping this quad until it dies. I purchased the following:
-Honda OEM starter/headlight switch assembly (new)
-Honda OEM ignition with 2 keys (new)
-Honda 99-04 400ex brake master cylinder (used)

installed everything but the master cylinder, need a buddy to give me a hand bleeding the system. pictures show the new ignition, bumper, headlight switch, muffed up clutch lever assembly (works fine)

Over this weekend, I got the universal LED taillight I ordered in the mail from eBay. Wired that up, works great except the brakes don’t engage the brake light function. The ASV brake lever does not trip the handlebar switch, and maybe the foot brake pressure switch is bunk. Oh well, I really just wanted a functioning running light for nighttime use.

Yesterday I ordered new packing for the muffler from Lexx (MXe pro whatever packing) and a new air filter from WIX, preoiled. Seems comparable to Uni and was $20 cheaper.

More pics to come later when I get outside to mess with her! Excited to ride upstate and in the snow this winter.

New guy from NZ

Gidday I’m a new member from New Zealand. That’s right Team NZ from the America’s cup and the All Blacks etc.

I’ve only just found this forum. Nothing like this in NZ.

I’ve had a few Trx 300s over the years starting with a 2×4 and now have a 1999 4×4 Fourtrax.

Just need to work out how to post pictures, can someone steer me in the right direction.
