Went to buy a Grizzly today, walked out with a Kodiak instead!

Hey guys, went to my local dealer today with the intention of purchasing a ’16 Grizzly SE. Saw the Kodiak there, too (also an SE – darn that color is amazing on both rides). So I figured I’d drive them both back to back and see what I like.

The Grizz first, it was awesome. Snappy throttle but controllable. Drove like a dream, but felt a little "floaty" to me. Would have definitely bought it if I didn’t also ride the Kodiak.

Got on the Kodiak and it was everything good about the Grizzly except, for me, better. It just felt like I was "in" the machine more (if that makes any sense). The 2" narrower width should also make navigating through tight trails and into my storage shed easier. It was amazing.

Only thing was that I had a nagging feeling that the Kodiak plays second fiddle to the big brother bear and that I wouldn’t be happy with it. I tried, back-to-back to find something I liked about the Grizzly more but I just couldn’t do it. The wet brake on the Kodiak felt exactly like the dual disks on the Grizzly. The power delivery of the Kodiak was smoother but I didn’t feel like it gave anything up to the Grizzly in terms over overall power – it just came on differently.

The only thing it lacks was the storage in the right fender and under the taillight. Oh, and halogen lights instead of LED. But for something like $1,400 less expensive, how could I go wrong?

New member from Alabama

Hey folks howdy from the state of Alabama and: ROLL TIDE! Have a 450 Foreman and 2 Recon machines that I bought almost a year ago. Been riding Honda since the 3-wheeler days so pretty comfortable with the machines and I think they make a great product.

One of the Recons (both of them have less than 10 hours on them)just won’t start. Rode it a week ago Saturday for about 15 minutes just to keep the battery charged and parked it. This past Saturday my wife got on the ES Recon and fired right up but the standard shift one would just turn but would not catch. Plenty of fuel but no spark from the plug. It’s like a wire came lose, a relay or fuse blew but don’t know where to start. The dealer says its got a 12 month warranty but a pain to get it back to him from a distance standpoint. I found no loose wires and combed all the connections. Kill switch bad? Something else? Any suggestions on where to trace this would be helpful since I think it’s something pretty simple.

Very disappointed with warn plow system. Please help

I took my warm plow system, all installed by my yamaha dealer, out for the first time this week. It worked fantastic for about 30 minutes. I was plowing our driveway, I got a high spot just off the gravel driveway and it stopped me and my viking in my tracks. I noticed the plow mount was bent and broke. I loaded it up, took it to my yamaha dealer and they claim I broke the mount and some mount tube? Is going to be close to $1,000 to fix. Is this normal and ok for a dealership to operate this way? I was under the impression that if I hit something while plowing, the plow would just roll over as a safety feature for something like this not to happen. I am just looking for advice here. I am about $16,000 into this machine and plow system and it lasted about a half hour before major damage was done. Any suggestions?

New member, axle lube confusion?

Greetings grizzly owners, I just joined this forum tonight, and have been the proud owner of a 2016 Grizzly EPS SE 700. WHAT A MACHINE this monster is to say the least! Anyways, im a bit confused as to the axle lubricants listed in owners manual, and also what the people at my dealership say? The owners manual states "mobilfluid 424" for final gear oil, and SAE 80 API GL-4 hypoid gear oil for differential. At first I was confused on the final gear oil thinking it was a separate oil for gearcase, but if I understand correctly, the engine oil lubricates the transmission gears? The final gear oil is the rear end correct? At the dealership I saw some quart bottles of fluid labeled "friction modified shaft drive gear oil" and also another quart with a name I cannot remember off bat.. nothing that read "mobilfluid" with the yamaha brand. In my mind just running a quality 75w90, or 80w90 gear lube should suffice, but I wanted all of your opinions first before I make a decision. I do not want to run synthetic in the engine until the motor has "broken in" some, and with the temps here in michigan already freezing, I am thinking yamalube(non synthetic) 5w30 for the mean time. Also, do any of you think it is a waste to change oil before first 20 hour service? In my mind im thinking "metal shavings" with it wearing in. Sorry for the long post, thank you all in advance!

Old rider noob question

Hi all matt from Illinois. After years of waiting for one of my friends to finish having fun so I could jump on their toy I finally pulled the trigger and bought a brand new 2015 Honda rancher 420. Nothing special just the base model. The only thing I was planning to pick up was a brush guard, I like the one from bision, that was before I had a friend give me a x1 superwinch. All I have is the winch with 2 wires hanging off of it. Now wiring doesn’t bother me and I’m handy with a wrench, my main question is what is it I all need to mount this thing. I see a bunch of posts about harnesses from Honda and diff brackets. Just looking for a push in the right direction.

new Grizzly owner here

Have been riding ATV’s for decades but got too old for sport quads, so now I have a new Grizzly and am looking forward to some post retirement trail riding. Curious to see if there many people in my area that are on this forum that are interested in similar adventures and can go riding during the week…

2011 grizzly 450 snorkel problems and solutions

NEW TO THE FORUM. I recently installed a triangle atv snorkel kit. My experience wasn’t great, it was a pain in the ass IMO. Needless to say my air box was all warped and cracked from exhaust heat. So before any snorkel kit I had to replace lid and box (cheap parts if you ask me). I also wrapped my header and big gun slip on for future protection. Anyways after kit was installed I took it out to a local stream. The water was very clean and flowing so I wasn’t too worried about belt housing getting muddy water. Well to my surprise we took on water FAST. The belt cover would fill within 20 seconds submerged. I had some tools and managed to get a couple turns on the clamp screws on the connections thought that was it. Went under again and boom water so I was out of ideas. I brought the quad home and knowing I already had been getting water I decided to put my hose directly into belt exhaust snorkel and fill. Had nothing to lose at this point. To my surprise the covers gasket was not holding at all water was coming from all directions. I tried to tighten it down but that was no help. I decided that instead of replacing the gasket and over tightening it and having leaks again I would completely silicone it shut. Besides that issue I believe I’m sealed up tight. I’m basically using this first post to not only give some info for anyone that is interested in snorkeling their quad but also asking for advice if anyone has done this mod and what they have found is a source point for water to infiltrate the system. Thanks for reading let me know what you think!!!
