Reserve Fuel

I have a question about the reserve fuel on my 14 Kodiak. On mine I have to turn fuel selector from Off to On to Reserve. I know gas goes bad after awhile,, so my question is how does a person use the Reserve fuel before it goes bad? I have figured to just turn it to Reserve and drive it, and maybe hopefully as it goes down the new fuel in the main tank will mix with it and keep it kinda fresh.

Any ideas will be appreciated.

Thanks

Battery Connection – 2008 Big Bear 250

I am working on replacing the battery and currently have some disconnected wires around the battery. Please confirm if the battery hot wire attaches to the starter relay? Where does the battery negative from the battery connect to? Please see attached picture of where my negative wire is and what looks like another ground next to it. I have reviewed the service manual but am a bit confused at this point. Thank you for your help.

Is this carburetor any good?

I am wondering about these carburetors on ebay. The guy has sold 1,423 so I am guessing people like them. I’m just wondering why this would be $60 and one from Yamaha or a parts place is $500.00? That to me says the quality is not even close. But if 1423 people found it be ok then they must work ok. I was wondering if anyone on here has used them and if so what they thought of them.

I wanted to add a link but since I don’t have 10 posts it wont let me. If you go to Google and search 2000 big bear 400 carburetor they will come up.

2000 big bear 400 running issues

Hey guys I’m looking for some assistance here. My grandfather passed away recently and has left me a 2000 yamaha big bear 400 4×4. It has not run in at least 3 years. The battery is completely shot and I was not able to pull start it. I removed the fuel line from the carburetor and it was plugged solid with a build a green gum/varnish type material. After screwing with it for a while I finally got the carburetor removed and I took it apart and cleaned it. I also completely drained the fuel tank and replaced it with new fuel. After trying it for a while it did finally start after I boosted it with my truck. The problem is it is running so badly it won’t stay running at an idle. If I hold the throttle open about 1/8-1/4 inch it runs great. If I try to go anymore it coughs, sputters and backfires terribly. On the same account if I try and let it idle it seems to idle so low it just dies. it will rev up with the choke closed but as I said it just backfires. I know that is caused by a lack of air to mix with the extra fuel. What I don’t understand is why when I open the choke it wont rev up at all. It just dies if I try to give it any throttle. I remember riding this when I was younger and It was a great machine. It always started right up and idled perfectly. Obviously sitting for so long has taken its toll. I am wondering if the battery being so bad it is some how causing so sort of issue with trying to run it due to an electrical issue. Any ideas what I should try? I would prefer not to take it to have it checked out if I can but I guess as a last resort that is an option. Any help would be great. Thank you.

2004 Big Bear 400 caliper replacement (help)

I bought a used ’04 BB off a guy on CL. Upon further investigation of the front brakes, i found one of the front brake pads actually had holes in it (indicating lack of maintenance). Because of this the piston was destroyed. So now I am planning on buying a new piston. Do I also need to buy new o-rings or are the old ones ok? Also to install the new piston do I just slide it back into the caliper? Finally, when I took the broken piston off brake fluid came out the small hole. Does this mean I also need to put new brake fluid in and/or bleed the brakes? Thanks for the help!
