What I already know…
1. 400x has a proven motor. One of the lowest maintenance 400’s available.
2. 450r requires more attention in terms of internal engine components.
I have always done oil changes with no more than 20 hours on my oil on all my ATV’s. The way I see it is keep clean oil in the bikes is a cheap insurance policy.
So with good preventative maintenance. What is the life expectancy of the 450r motor when keeping clean oil in the motor and the valves adjusted?
My riding style is trail riding. No racing. Spirited riding from time to time. I buy a quad to keep it for a long time. I still have a 2003 400ex that I bought new in 2003. Still looking good and no issues. Just lots of oil changes and taking care of it.
Wondering if anyone makes a vented gas gap with a gas level gauge on there to tell when its full/empty. Wouldn’t be able to read it much while riding but would be nice to know how much gas I have at a glance without having to try and look inside.
I have a 2000 Trx 90. Not getting any spark. No power to the coil. There is a yellow wire running off the stater and it seems that its the only wire that has power. I believe there is something wrong with the neutral safety switch. I was told that the yellow wire could be for a headlight. I tried grounding out both connections coming off the neutral safety switch. Still no spark. If there is power coming off the yellow wire when i pull it i know the stater is bad. What to do now?
Hope you all are as excited as I am for the summer!!
Wanted to share a few modifications I did this month in preparation to the summer. I’m currently in Houghton, MI and looking to do some trail riding.
New mods:
– Installed a Trail Yech Voyager (GPS model)
– Installed a Pro Armor fall kill switch
– Installed an innovation motorsports O2 sensor with air/fuel ratio. I don’t like guessing/reading plugs (not good at it lol) when tuning and this is the best way to know for sure
– Installed new Tusk Nerf bars and bumper
– Wrapped exhaust with titanium exhaust wrap from DEI
– New brakes fro EBC (only did front)
– Adjusted my fricken clutch cable. Didn’t have enough slack and wondered why my clutch was slipping… That’s feels better now lol
– Oil change with Bel Ray synthetic oil and a K&N oil filter
Here are some pics, feel free to post pics of your summer ready ride on this thread too!!
I’m in the process of rebuilding a carb on a 1988 trx350d Foreman.
I figured it would be good preventive maintenance to replace the boot between the carb and the cylinder. Can’t find one, either OEM or aftermarket. Part# is 16211-HA7-671
Anyone have a solution?

I just bought back our 02 300 ex that we sold 10 years ago.Reverse and netural light both not working. I have not looked into it too much. Is there a common problem that would cause them to both not work. Very low hrs on it.
Does a 02 300ex have a crush washer on drain plug? Just drained the oil and there was no crush washer. If it does has anyone been able to get one from an auto parts store? Dealer is closed till Monday. Anyone know the exact size. ID and Od. Thank you.
When I was a kid dad bought a 1996 Foreman 400 with 38 hours on it from an old guy…it was practically brand new. 19 years of hard use on the farm/ranch and my dad finally had to replace it. The engine is weak, brakes are shot, shifter post broke off inside the engine, etc. He recently replaced it with a 2014 Foreman and said I could have the old one. I took him up on the offer and will be driving home to pick it up this summer. I was going to rebuild the old engine but found a pretty decent deal on ebay on an engine with supposedly ~500 hours and 125psi compression. He was asking $899 but accepted my offer of $750 so couldn’t pass it up. If the engine is any good, my plan is to try and make a decent four-wheeler between the two of them. Dad just had the tires, front differential and cv shafts replaced so really all I’ll need to do is replace the engine, fix the brakes, and I should (hopefully) have a pretty decent four-wheeler for under $1,000 that the wife and kids can play on. I had pictures of it (it looks pretty tough) but can’t seem to find them. Just wanted to share the beginning of my journey on this project.
hello all, i just recently purchased an 87 trx250x. The guy i bought it from said it had a bent valve. I took the motor apart and replaced that valve and all the valve seals, put a whole new top end gasket kit on, cleaned the carb out, new spark plug, drained all the old oil and gas out, put brand new fluids in and threw it all back together. It doesnt want to idle, rough/hard to start, blows non stop white smoke, and it backfires out of the carb. i cant seem to figure out whats wrong with it, Does anybody know why it does this?
