400ex clutch cover removed. spring fell out?

So I removed my clutch cover today and there was a spring inside. I have no idea where it came from. I did also have the stator cover off to replace the one way starter bearing. Idk if it could of came from that side of the motor. I think I attached a picture of it. Still new to the forums sorry

2000 trx400ex

Hello all, been lurking here for a bit. Nice forum, good knowledge.

I am looking at a 200 TRX400EX, here are the issues that I know about.

No rear brake caliper, found several on ebay for less than $100.
Needs a clutch, found them between $50-150 from varies places.

What I need to know, how do I check the transmission and gears if the clutch is toasted?

He say’s the motor runs and will fire right up, ok, good. But how to check the other major areas of the quad if the clutch is not working?

Thanks in advance

87 TRX350 floods on hot restart.. GAHHH!

Greetings! I’ve spent a ton of time and a little bit of money trying to get this old bulldozer going, and for the most part it is working well… unless we shut it off and let it sit for 15-30 minutes, then it floods on restart.

The details:

– New fuel pump (the proper regulated one)
– New Caltric carb, stock jetting, pilot/fuel screw 4 turns out (this is where it idled the highest when warmed up, between the two points where it started to drop idle)
– New fuel filter
– New air filter (UNI)
– New coil and wire
– New battery
– Oil temp switch bypassed, manual fan switch installed

– Starts well when cold, choke on. Have to take it off choke within a few seconds and then manually hold throttle until it gets a little heat in it to idle
– Idles fine and runs well
– Will continue idling and running well until we shut it off.. have ridden it over an hour nonstop and it is good
– Can sit for 0-15 minutes or so and it will restart (no choke or throttle)
– Sitting longer results in a no-start. Have to wait for it to cool down for quite a while before it will think about going again, not sure how long because I usually leave it in frustration and play with it the next day.

The obvious answer: don’t shut it off LOL… but I really would like to get this thing starting reliably if it is possible. It was such a heap when I came into it, and now after all the time and effort, it is just teasing us! Haha…

From my (LIMITED) understanding of carbs, the pilot/fuel screw between the throttle slide and the engine is what has the most influence on starting so that is where I should be messing with it… or am I missing something?

What to look for when buying used?

I found what I feel to be a great deal on a 2000 trx400ex. I’m looking at it tomorrow and just wondering what advice you guys have. He was very friendly, well spoken and polite and seemed to get excited when I asked if we could start it. I know that doesn’t mean much but it didn’t set off any red flags. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If all goes well I could have a new (to me) quad. You can look at the post and pictures below.

"2000 Honda TRX400EX with two sets of Hauler sand paddles on aluminum rims and an extra set of dirt tires, Clymer manual, K&N filter, HMF performance exhaust, custom seat, new swing arm, new front plastic, additional racing plastic (cut fenders for sand), Honda small parts kit. It starts easy, runs strong, and is in good condition. Always garaged.

Flatbed trailer, 8ft X 12ft, heavy duty tube steel frame, low profile (easy to load), new paint and plywood decking put on a few years ago, aluminum ramps, locked storage box, plenty of tie downs, always garaged"

2003 TRX250EX Axle rebuild

Hey Guys…I am in the middle of replacing all of the bearings and Seals on the axle. I wanted to see if anyone can show me any of there videos of replacing there bearings bc what I see don’t line up with the instructions. (all the videos I searched never showed the side in question)…. The oil seal and the bearing on the brake drum are replaced but the other side where it shows XBG130, RC102 and XSE180 in the below diagram doesn’t. I do see the actual bearings from it blowing up laying there but not the actual ring of the bearing. Only thing i see is the seal. Thanks
